Enjoyed playing this, was in the closed beta...is there a way to party up with your mates or do you have just find the same server?
 
When I first got the Anker cable I was getting 1.8 Gbps speed, same as others were getting. I tested it again today and its dropped to half that, circa 900 Mbps.

Has anyone else noticed this or seeing same?
 
Been dreaming about a VR set for a while, not sure I'm taking the plunge just yet, but got a few questions. I was looking at the quest because I don't have the room where my PC is for VR, so standalone makes a lot of sense (maybe plugin for sit down things, but anything requiring movement won't work).

I've read that it doesn't work well outside? Anyone tried/had issues etc? Outside really is my best bet.

How small does the headset go, no way could I not let my son play, but he's only 8 and not that large, again, any experience?

Also, what are the rumours of the next gen? Is it going to be any time soon? Are there any other standalone options out there worth considering?
 
Think the issue is outside that if the sun hits the lenses then they act as magnifiers and burn the displays behind the lenses basically destroying the headset. Our back garden is in shade for much of the lawn from about 5pm so use it outside after that until late with no problems. My son is 8 and he plays on the Quest often, not for very long periods as is quite front heavy and gets a bit uncomfortable for him but he has prob still played an hour or so sessions on it. Beat Saber, Job Simulator, Echo Arena and a few others mainly.

There are two issues with playing outside:
  1. Sunlight can burn the LCD screens if the sun shines on the lenses - even sunlight reflections can do this.
  2. The LED's on the touch controllers aren't bright enough in sunlight to show up on the cameras, leading to poor tracking.
However you can use it outside in the shade (provided sunlight can't reach the lenses) or when the sun is below the visible horizon (e.g. behind buildings, trees). It may also be possible to play outside when overcast too.

I played my Quest outside when on holiday at dusk, and it worked perfectly.

Tried it outside when it was overcast and worked a treat. Cant beat the extra space to move around. Another good place if you have one and its not full of junk is in the garage.
 
Get ready for a youtube video of a VR user taking out a Gazebo pole (swiping at a headcrab) and bringing the whole lot down on them :)
 
Im generally struggling with some controls in VR, like for example taking screenshots, and being able to exit and re-enter the VR world.

Can anyone help?

Screenshots: the normal steam screenshot button is F12, but this didn't seem to work for me when I was just watching the launch live stream in sansar.

Then in my attempts to see what the controller buttons did, I inadvertently went back to the Oculus link home environment. I could see the virtual desktop but couldn't see how to re-enable the VR mode. I had to quit and restart steam VR and then the app.


Does anyone have a grasp of these types of controls and can help me out? If so I think I need some kind of crib sheet stuck to the wall in front of me.
 
PRTSCN key seems to get a screen capture, which you can import into paint.

Don’t know if anyone can help shed some light on this problem I have , when I load games and get to the menu part it kinda goes all shakey but then settles down, I have just done a full windows 10 pro re install and hoped that would fix it, but alas it’s still there, noticed it when loading project stardust yesterday, before re Install it did it to iL2 BOS as well, not sure if it happened to all games, but starting to think it is the headset ? But does not seem to affect game play ,

any ideas ?

Does it work fine in Quest native games? If so it is not your headset.

What are your PC specs?

what would you call a native quest game, Vader immortal ! i got that one, i will give it a try, maybe i should try being connected to link and VD separately to see if its a connection problem, will try shortly and get back to you
