One of my other interests was music server type PC's for 192 digital audio, that drive would allow quite an extensive library of high bit rate audio to be stored in a silent self sufficient music playback PC.

Maybe in a few years or so they will become affordable for meagre bike mechanics like me

To be fair, people who actually make money through work doing something thats HDD transfer limited like, video encoding/capture/editing or something along those lines, if you can increase the speed of your work and get more done in less time, letting you get other work done and increasing your income, its worth it.

For your average user a £100 crucial for OS, your most important games and apps, and a stupidly cheap mechanical hdd for other stuff and backup will give you the same performance.

You know some rich twit will buy it and store porn on it though :( I hate rich people... well until I am one.

It would be cheaper to stream from SD cards....

8gb sd card = £10

800gb = £1000

maybe not...
 
Roughly the same cost as 4x 256GB drives in RAID0, which is exactly what it is under the shell.
Only slower, thanks to SATA 300 limitation.
 
Crazy price, and agree with the consensus some idiot will buy it when he doesn't even need it and post on a forum bragging.
