OCZ Revodrive - OMG Benchmarks

could you do some other benchmarks would be nice to find out how fast it is with small files rather than sustained read/writes. Some fileserver type benchmarks would be good.

Mini Review

Well I waited to decide which way I was going to go, and despite everyone telling me to go with the LSi Megaraid that I already owned, my curiosity got the better and the Revo arrived this morning :D

Packing is bomb-proof

And here she is looking like a 90's graphics card on steroids

It was a proper ball ache getting the raid driver onto the system.. I ended up using a usb floppy disc as I couldnt get it to recognise the driver through CD/DVD on IDE mode let alone AHCI.. made me chuckle that I was using bleedin edge technology which was only made possible by use of a floppy :p

Windows seemed to take ages to load, perhaps it was because I expected it to be really fast? I didn't time it but it finally loaded and I was allowed to start in IDE mode without the BSOD that others had complained of.. Windows finalised settings, I loaded some basic drivers and wasn't overly impressed.. that was until I had to shut it down. Time? --> definately under a second

On reboot it took about twenty something but this is a naked load and I expected it to be quick - it did not dissapoint. So enough flannel, here's some shots. If you would like anything specific, just ask and I will try and get some pics up for you :)

To the guy that was launching all his toys out of his overclocked pram.. hang in there dude, it will be worth the wait ;)

..and finally a Win system performance shot.. showing my HD5790 as the slowest component :p

I don't care how much work I have to do regarding re-imaging or re loading due to degradation. The performance is the single biggest change in the PC market since I have been building systems (20 years) as an OEM system builder. Click and it's there!

The system is UD9 based with a 930 o/c'd to 4.0GHz, with 6 gig RAM and water cooled.. pics to follow when I get round to making the case mod thread :)

Need to remove a few processes to speed things up but you get the idea.

Just waiting on a new screen for my laptop. Once I have that fixed and sold I'm definitely dropping the money on one of these.

thanks for taking the time to post the inf rush_syndrome congrats on your card
You say you own the LSi card how does the revo compare i.e on boot times how much does the bios slow down the boot.
Its a funny thing with getting fastest SSD setup ,with a single drive you have no raid bios to wait for but with raid you have the much faster read/write's using multiple drive's ....it would be nice if someone devloped the same performance of raided SSD's with out a raid chipset.

My thought is in the future we will see 64gb ssd built into the mainboards as you will have everything to get going from the off ....sorry just rambling ...now :o:rolleyes:

@ Rush Syndrome

My toys are still out of the pram.

I have been told by OCUK that all the revo drives they have are experiencing problems and that they only managed to get one Revodrive to boot windows which corrupted days later.

I asked why then, are they are selling a product which does not work? It's a new product, teething problems he answered.

I don't know if i'm just being bull****ted here but i asked for them to send me a green stickered drive (you can see the tiny sticker on the picture you posted which mine does not have) and if i have problems with it i would go to OCZ.

And now i have been left for 2 days without a response on how to go about exchanging the drives, so my very expensive computer is just sat here like a lemon -_-

You're welcome :) I bought the LSi from here and was about to buy 4 C300's but then the Revo appeared so I bought that. As yet I havent managed to buy any SSD's because I think that there will be another generation of SATA3 drives around the corner. I was also put off with the amount of heat the LSi card generates when it's on  It needs a fan on the h/s :p

I'm going to use the Revo for games only so I have turned off most of the unused services like spooler etc to maximise the performance. Turning off unnecessary services can give you a huge boot to performance and is often overlooked.

As for the RAID bios, its a very simplistic compared to the LSi's proper SCSI web bios but it only sits on the screen for about a second and its gone. Your idea of onboard SSD's is a brilliant idea! The big server players like Tyan should be thinking about that

Are you going to partition it as a 100gb drive as i heard that helps it recover performance faster?

It's been set at 102 with 9 gig unallocated. Will update the thread with some benchies in a month to show any degradation. Running benchies actually causes a hit in performance, the drive needs time to recover and running continual benchies slows the recovery process.. there is a thread on the OCZ forums about this. I plan on buying another one or two even as I plenty of spare PCIE slots :D

Ok, best advice here is take a chill pill. I know it's frustrating when you spend good money on a beta product that doesn't play but that is exactly what they are. Revo must be short for revolutionery because they are and they will change the way we build our PC's once the prices come down.

With anything this hi-tech, you will always have 'teething problems' because there aren't enough of them out there in the field so the response is always slow. I speak from experience here and have had nightmares with high end server boards with memory that is not compatible and £800 mobo's that don't boot because the BIOS is useless.. this is a unique product and it will take them time to sort the isues out. As for OC, put yourself in their shoes for a moment; the wholesaler always gets the stick when a new product misbehaves as they are caught in the middle and there is not a lot that they can do. As for the logistics, it is easy and human to get one order wrong, and although frustrating they will rectify it as long as you don't antagonise them with posts like this ;)

I think I saw your post on the OCZ forum (or a post outlining the same problem), and they are actively dealing with it. As I understand it, there was a supply problem with these drives, as first of all they sold out rapidly, then the word on the net said they didn't work, and the wholesalers were then told to freeze all stock and return. Drop Ryder a mail, he is taking a very pro-active stance in rectifying these and the guy is clearly passionate about his companies products. Like I said, hang in there it will be worth the wait :)

Holy moly and I thought my Agility was fast. Gigabyte per £ is a bit a crazy though, not in any rush for a replacement yet...

I appreciate what you are saying but at the end of the day, pcie SSD's have been out for a while. The only reason i am so annoyed with OCUK is that they sent me a un recalled drive when they knew full well that they had been recalled, simple as that.

I seriously want one!

If I had a couple k I know where my money would be going on storage. If I had the money I would end up getting something stupid like industrial pci-e expansion kits and filling them up with revos or z-drives. :p

Such as a magma bareboard...
