My mate has a VERTEX 2 drive and its stopped booting, it gets to the LOADING WINDOWS screen where the windows logo morphs onto the screen and then it just sticks at that. I have tried it in my PC and it is not detected at all. Any way this could be sorted?

EDIT: This was after it was turned off at the mains when it froze (I know..)

No word of a lie, our media centre did EXACTLY this yesterday with the same SSD. Eyes on this thread!

Ouch. I have tried these things:

Trying the SSD in a different computer to rule out any other hardware faults
Booting in safe mode
Booting off the Windows Disk to try and repair the drive

No no avail.

It is was also very hard to get the drive picked up in my bios and didnt exist in the Windows Repair screen either.

ok, when mine did this there was a led flashing in the SSD, green if memory serves me right. You must have the system working to see it. If there is a LED flashing inside the ssd then i think you have a bricked disk

My Vertex 2 failed a few months ago. It lasted about 13 months.
I didn't bother buying the Vertex 3 or other OCZ product.
I got the Crucial M4, so far so good.

My advise for anyone with a Vertex 2:
Store important data on a second drive.
Encrypt the drive, in case you have to send the disk for checks/repairs. You data should be safe.
And finally .... sorry for your future data loss
