OCZ Vertex2E and True Image

My first introduction to Acronis Trueimage was as a result of people upgrading their netbook SSDs - it was being used and suggested as the tool of choice to migrate the installation over to a bigger SSD, and expand the volume to fill the (bigger) capacity of the new SSD in the transfer process, as the ones sold with the ~£200 netbooks were (understandably) tiny.

No reason why it wouldn't work for HDD -> SSD or vice versa. I just imagine the backup will necessarily need to contain less data than the place it's being restored to for it to work.

Thanks for the reply :)
I have read that hd & ssd have different alignments , will this prove an issue with backup and restore or just if someone was to use cloning ?
At present i'm undecided between an SSD and a Velociraptor.

i used the windows7 disc to create the 100MB boot and main partition to get proper alignment then quit and then restored windows with TI.

disable auto defrag in windows after you've installed on the ssd.

Thanks,
During restore in Acronis True Image boot disk there is the option to tick restore MBR and Track 0 , would this be enough ?
i am using XP Pro and the ATI boot disk.

i restored MBR but had to use the windows disc afterwards to repair boot, maybe due to the disc id changing.

i've only done this with W7 so i don't know if XP will be the same.

TrueImage 2011 can handle partition alignment, but going from unaligned to aligned seems to be a bit trial and error in getting it done:

Hmmmm i see, great link to ! I think for the time being until i am ready to install Windows 7 i think ill go with the Velociraptor. When i commit to upgrading (and i am still pondering over it despite having W7 pro retail here for 18 months :D ) Then i could install it fresh on an SSD and back it up to my "My Book" i guess. Might be the most trouble free way to go.
Thanks.
