Hi all,

I've an odd issue with a laptop and mouse at work.

Laptop has 2 usb ports. The usb mouse was working fine yesterday, but today it's not. It is lighting up and getting power but just won't move anything. I have to use that horrid little red mouse joystick thing built into the keyboard.

I've tested the USB ports with a USB mem stick and it's picking them up.

I've tried his mouse on my PC and that's working fine.

I've tried booting in safe mode and I've removed the USB options in device manager and rebooted, nothing.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

Thanks in advance.

If you are using options that disable laptop keyboard touchpad and button when you plug in the mouse then maybe that is interacting and that driver somehow preventing control being passed to mouse (I occasionally have to unplug/re-plug usb mouse)

Mouse itself is fine. Used it on my laptop and it works. Tried 2 working mice on his laptop no joy.

Could be a power issue, he had to change the power settings yesterday as it was getting very hot. Software showed a max temp of 101'c.

Not sure about options for disabling. the laptops are utter rubbish. I'll have to have a look around.

you did not say if it is windows 10 ?

(which can now be added to list of possible causes for any problem.
Personally have disabled win 10 driver updates, but have not investigated where I should look to see what it has done, if I did re-enable them.)

Sorry, thought I'd put it in the original post. Rushed off my feet and it's started to effect my brain.

It's Windows 7.
