Odd phone call : Silence then a voice says "Goodbye"

Auto diallers. Rings 100 numbers at once and there are 20 operators available to take the calls. First 20 get through, the rest get a "goodbye" although normally silence/hang up.

I had one a couple of months ago which was all zeros on the caller display. I think it was one of those get rid of your debts companies.

Strung them along cause I was bored for about 5 minutes answering their questions and getting them all excited especially the size of my (company) debts/borrowings. Finally, she asked, "are you a company and not a private individual" to which I said yes and she said "but we only deal with private debts" to which I answered "why have you rung the main office number then?"

She hung up after that. :D

lol you should have said ok private then....

I've had recently some company phoning me and as soon as I answer they put me on hold :confused:

I hung up but it stressed me out for some strange reason...:p

@op perhaps it's anne robinson.

If it's a landline, then get a phone that allows you to send all incoming calls silently to answering machine unless they're on a list you can specify. I've got a BT 6510 and set it to do not disturb mode for that reason. Calls from the few numbers I've specified will cause the phone to ring (and go to answerphone after a few rings if I don't answer). Calls from any other number, or any witheld or unknown number, go straight to answerphone, silently. So in effect I never get any unsolicited call, ever. I see them listed in my call log, but since the phone never rings for them it's impossible for them to bother me. It's far better than call blocking because it never fails and it still allows genuine callers to leave a message.

If it's a mobile...well, if there isn't an app for that then there should be.
