Odd phone call : Silence then a voice says "Goodbye"

we always get the same kinda deal, answer the phone and it just hangs up, or occasionally its an actual indian who's trying to sell someone I've never heard of ppi or something.

I just generally ignore or occasionally answer, fake an indian accent and say 'hello kebab express indian takeaway can I take you're order please?'. if i'm bored i'll troll them a bit.

Thread resurrection indeed!!!.

For the autodialler/recorded message calls you can't really have much fun. I tend now to answer and give the caller a second or two to reply. If they don't, I hang up. You can always tell the call centre marketing calls as there is a distinct and obviously recognisable delay before the person at the other end speaks. These, I just hang up on.

However I also have two other highly amusing/childish methods for dealing with this which I employ. I either give the phone to our 2 and a half year old lad and walk away or I place the landline phone down next to my iPhone and switch this on which I have stored on it:-

That's only for marketing and sales calls though.

Yep. To be blunt, the sheer volume of unsolicited calls that the public have to contend with nowadays means that the TPS although a good idea to be registered, doesn't really put a dent in dealing with the issue because of the methods and tactics companies now employ, especially those outside the realms of the laws concerned.
