Odd problem with Crucial M4

I can borrow a Samsung 840 256GB thats not being used during the week and try that.

I agree about the cables.... :) I've ordered some new ones anyway just to be safe

I would install the intel rapid storage drivers from gigabyte website if you havn't already, they will increase speeds slightly over the standard windows drivers and might cure this freezing

Thanks wazza..did it just in case I'd missed it before. Swapped cable back so SSD is in SATA 0 again and its been stable for the past hour....not counting our feathered friends again...yet... but it "feels" stable. Will be trying the Samsung 840 256GB anyway.

I must be mad.....

To be honest I'm not 100% sure. As I thought I had done that before. Maybe unplugging everything and reseating all the cables did it as well. Possibly a dirty loose connection. But to be fair I'll take it if it stays like this. If nothing else its been an education in resolving issues with SSDs and motherboards etc and where to look.

Hopefully anyone reading this will get some assistance as well. I'll keep an eye on it for the rest of the day ;)

Cheers...and my faith restored in SSDs as well. Not sure I could live without it now. Booting up from a HDD seemed soooooooooo slow.

Always the place to come for advice on buying and technical help...which you guys have proven yet again.

Just installed the Samsung 840 500GB..it wasn't a 256GB.... and it couldn't be easier. just plugged it in copied across the current C drive using Casper. Rebooted to Samsung 840 and no problem at all. Whatever the issue was before its certainly gone now. I suspect a loose cable but I don't care now that everything is working.

Boy that 840 is quick as well. Bootup to Windows 7 in around 18 seconds. I think I'm going to keep it as 500Gb is a nice size for a Windows drive with apps and even some data such as docs and music. Might just save movies to the back up drive. Impressed

HDDs are nowhere being defunct of course but once SSDs are produced in TB sizes and, crucially, cost effectively it makes you wonder.............
