How long do you tend to keep your old clothes before you throw them out?

Do you regularly go through your things and remove the stuff you no longer wear or do they tend to fall to the bottom of a drawer and get forgotten about?

Very much the latter. I had to recently go through my room, and I managed to fill (I'm not kidding about this) 4 black bags with clothes I haven't worn in years. I'd just hoarded them, probably in a 'what IF I need them...' mood.

Every 3-6 months I do a mass clean out of my stuff. If I haven't worn it, used it, seen it or thought about it since the last mass clean out, I get rid. Clothes usually go to a charity.

Only exception is stuff I wouldn't normally wear at that time of year - I wouldn't throw out my rain coat if it hadn't rained in a few months, for example! :p

I tend to keep a lot of old clothes, old hoodies and jeans especially, I keep them as quad bike clothes and farm wear :)

Does anyone else buy any new clothes then after say a month, decide they don't like it anymore and just never really wear it again?

Usually, I reach a point where I can no longer cram any more shirts or trousers into my work wardrobe. At that point all the shirts that are starting to show their age (fashion wise or wear) get dumped in a charity bag.

My weight has been a bit yo-yo over the past two years after a stomach op and stuff, so that was the last time I got rid of a load of 'fat man' clothes. Soon, I suspect, I might need to get rid of some 'thin man' clothes :(

You're not doing a bit of market research on the side are you? ;)

I have done that for a few items in the past. Luckily these days I know when I won't like clothes so return them. If they're t-shirts or long sleeved ones, then they're used as pyjamas or saved for an upcoming heavy session (if I can think of one) respectively.

Usually clean out clothes the moment I notice they are looking worn. If they look in proper condition but I go sick of them, I keep them "just in case" :p

This weekend I'm buying my first new work shirts for 7 years.

Nuff said :D.

Oh, and the old ones aren't going to get thrown out :).

EDIT: Postcount of 1234, woot!

I only throw clothes away if they're torn or otherwise unwearable, or if they no longer fit me.

This.

I'm so tight, I wear clothes for ages, I've got Jeans and T-Shirts well over a few years old now that I still wear, and it's not like I have a massive selection either lol.

Yes.

I get rid of clothes when they don't fit/torn/faded or when Gem goes through my wardrobe looking for things to sell on eBay.
