It's probably just reset on the dash cluster somehow. The real reading it's likely still in the ECU.

Normally you can dial it forward to fix it, but not backwards.

If it really is that easy to reset it, there is going to be a lot of clocked Kias around :D

You sure it was your odo and not your trip? It's not easy to reset odo.. Never mind illegal

It's not illegal to rewind the odometer, it's illegal to sell the car without declaring it.

It is easy, haven't you seen the number of people advertising mileage correction services.

more than likely the mechanic hasnt exited programming mode correctly hence why mileage isnt showing. the only way to zero the clocks is replace them or reprogram them niether it seems would be in connection to the work.
does everything else work on the dash gauges etc all registering/?

the only other time i have seen it happen was when a mechanic was playing with a new diagnostic tool he was using on a passat and accidentally reset the mileage, by putting the dash in programming mode as if he was programming new keys, effectively making it a new dash and then didnt know how to exit programming mode correctly, caused a few red faces at the dealership . luckily mileage was reinstated when the program was reused correctly. try removing the battery terminal for 15 minutes then replacing it (make sure you have the keys out of the car at the time , it may jog it.
