oem & sata query please

Hi, not sure how many people read the HD forum but I'll try anyway:

1) Never bought OEM before, can someone tell me if oem HD's come with the appropriate SATA leads etc please. Or would these need to be bought seperately?

2)How much quicker is your average SATA compared to and average IDE?

3)On an unrelated matter, would a crappy 350w psu that came with a £20 cheap'n'nasty case be sufficient to run a SATA drive along with the rest of the (midrange, venice 3500, x800gto) system? I think I already know the answer to this but can someone confirm this please?

Cheers for any help,

I'll take 1 & 3...

All internal hard disk sold anywhere come as OEM, just plain HD in an anti-static bag & brown box. You will only get SATA, IDE & other necessary cables with motherboards. Otherwise you are forced to buy. Therefore best to order together with HD because of ridiculous shipping costs (i.e. cable will be less than P&P :( ).

350W's should be enough, but do you have anything to support your crappy claim, e.g. low RAILs especially +12v (ideally should be 18A & above), has Q-Tec written all-over it, etc. NOTE: crappy/cheap PSU doesn't mean it will not be able to RUN, but it means serious problems round the corner, e.g. blow-ups, etc.

EDIT: eXtreme PSU Calculator

SATA cables are bundled with retail boxed motherboards, or are available seperatly. Probably supplied with retail hard drives

Not quite a fair test, as the 80GB has less cache. But still a general idea though..

Cool, thanks for such a quick response guys. So, say my PSU did have QTec written all over it, would I be best off replacing it with a better, more powerful one and using the QTec to run scalextric instead?

lol :D But I wouldn't even trust it running that. Change, but you don't have to go OTT, e.g...
