Open it up, I thought my was gone at one point turns out was just a little plastic but that needed putting back into place, once that was done sucked in discs as normal

I opened mine up recently for the first time as it wasn't reading discs. Cleaned it up and now works perfectly. Google a how-to it's pretty simple. You will need a particular screw driver which you can get for a couple of pounds. Sounds like the plastic rollers have dislodged.

Yeah. I've heard about a couple of deals on European Amazon stores for game bundles, but I'd only be interested in them after landing the console itself! I have some Argos vouchers lying about so I may just end up using those.

You can change the region within PSN now as you couldn't before. So, no its not frowned upon by Sony as they made it easier.
