*OFFICAL* 9600GT Thread

card is not fast enough for crysis on high details with a res of 1280x1024 , i think anyone buying a new card be today will want a card to at least run this game which has been out for a while now.

If your not a little Hitler over image quality its a good investment, and also games like bf2 and fear which are last gen, this card will handle fps in the 100+ on a at a res of 1280x1024.

not a card for future proofing at all, but for the non enthusiast, it will deliver a acceptable gaming experience , just so long as you are realistic to what you throw at it.

Couldn't they have just dropped the price of the 8800 GT? Or released this card with lower clocks at a lower price point? 'Cause at the moment it's seeming really redundant. I mean sure, it's probably the card I'll recommend for new builds from now on until something better comes along, but it's really nothing special, especially if those Radeon 3000 series price drops are seen over here.

Its still too big for my HTPC, its a massive card for a x6xx line. All the other x6xx previously have been small pcbs.

Capcom, if you're quoting a review it's good to put it in quote tags and name the source. I'm not criticising you. It's just a suggestion.

The 9600GT is priced at the same level as the 3850 512MB, which is its direct competitor in every way. It's well priced imo.

no probs , i thought it was pretty obvious what review i was quoting seeing as he asked

What does firingsquads review show? I cant see it college is blocking it, so is it 8800GT performance with a lot less shaders?

It was obvious Capcom1 ;). Prosk seems to have PMS :D.

Another review for those interested: http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/02/21/nvidia_geforce_9600_gt/

Price is the only thing that can make this card popular - there is clearly nothing special about it in terms of technology or performance, but if it does retail at a reasonable price (i.e. less than a 3850) then it will do well :)

Like most others, I was expecting a little more from nVidia tho, both in terms of the 9600 and the 9800gx2.......

Gibbo,

Mav does this every time a new card comes out and he's been suspended more times that most of us can count.

God knows why he hasn't been banned yet...

Obviously the 9600 GT doesn’t have the pure shading horsepower of the 8800 GT, sporting just 64 stream processors compared to the 8800 GT’s 112, but other than the shading unit deficit the two GPUs are quite similar architecturally. Texture filtering and addressing capabilities are the same, as are the number of ROPs
Although given the same architecture, texture units are paired with shader clusters. Then the texture fill rate is going to be quite a bit lower as well.

9600GT 64SP's 32TMU's > 20.8 GTex/s
8800GT 112Sp's 56TMU's > 33.6 GTex/s

Hey guys, just wondering when roughly are these expected to hit the shelves? Also the graph on the first post looks as if the 8800GT out performs the 9600GT - is this correct? Im after a new graphics card within the next week or two, I dont know if someone would like to help me out :p My current card is a 2900XT but Im getting rid as its too noisey, hot and consumes too much power (these are the most important factors for me)

So just where does the performance come from?

Great after just 3.5 months the 8800GT is now officially outdated

But just imagine what the 9800GTX will be like though.

Exactly why is price speculation a bad thing?

What ever happened to freedom of speech?

If you have nothing to hide then you have no reason to censor price discussion on the forum.

the owners of this site want people to buy at today's prices not wait for tomorrows. be that right or wrong. that's the reason
