If you can, set them on fire with either molotov or gas cans, takes them down very quickly. Failing that, try and get to an open-ish area where you can spread out as a team (though obviously dont get in a position where the tank is inbetween you and a teammate ;P).

Other than that, it is just a case of blasting away at him, if he knocks someone to the floor and starts beating them, then you can get in close for a couple of shots with the auto-shotty or hunting rifle, though can be risky.
 
On expert, molotov him and run. dont bother stopping to shoot him because he will catch you. If you're being chased, run. if you're not, shoot him until you are. then run.
 
hmm works for me fine :) but i've been invited to the group.. played on one of the custom servers with campaigns a bit annoying that you can see where you can climb as a zombie :) and after i've killed all the bots i was a tank till i voted for restart :) valve could hurry up with these campaigns..
 
I just joined a server only played for 5mins , died the first time... Then joined as a hunter jumped on someone and a kick vote came up...

i was playing on public lobby and by the voice there were kids under 14 in server :/


how to play versus in single player.
Go to steam/steamapps/common/left4dead/left4dead/cfg and make a new file called "spversus.cfg". Now, copy and paste all of this in your cfg file:

Then close the file, save it and make it read only, because left4dead likes to edit files. Anyway, start up left4dead in single player, doesn't matter what map, type "exec spversus.cfg" in console. Then press your team switch key and switch to infected. You can spawn as, or when you have already spawned, spawn a boomer with F1, a smoker with F2, a hunter with F3, a tank with F4, a common infected with F5 and a witch with F6. But, you will notice the so-called "zombie ladders" are missing! To fix this, you have to change to the versus levels instead of the co-op levels. type "changelevel l4d_vs(fill in the rest, the console will give you suggestions about existant maps from there on. hospital is no mercy and farm is blood harvest).

Tank killing tactic - probably nothing new to many of you, but I've noticed you can 'divert' him from killing another player (when down) by right-clicking and 'slapping' him a couple of times... problem is he goes for you :) but could save one person dying.

Just tried my first ever Versus game and Infected is so fun!

My Death Toll achievement seems to have bugged like 2-3 times now. I know for sure I was alive everytime when I was on the boat!

I've finally realised what I love about this game. It's the panic and chaos. Yes, making it to the safehouse is can be a real boost, but I love it when the room is full of zombies, you're covered in vomit all you can hear is the mindless screaming of the horde, punctuated now and then by Louis screaming "get it off me, get it off me". Then the quiet contrast, when Bill let's out his little chuckle and Francis tells you that his ass hurts.

The scoreline really does mean bugger all to me....apart from when a team scores 12, then it's really important to focus on it for a few minutes - unless it's your team :D

So when folk ask me to grab an auto-shotty on the finale of Blood Harvest and sit in the corner with everyone else, waiting for the tank, maybe you'll understand why I go stand at the far end of the room and wait for the chaos to begin :D
