***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Right, so it was just the dirt going all white for me, but if I run it in windowed mode it looks ok, anyone know what the problem could be?

And gg to whoever was on, I had to leave as I have work tomorrow, lol.

i get similar problem to this sometimes whole areas such as the subway floor and walls will come up magenta  but most of the time its fine

Thanks guys, I had some great games tonight! Especially that last one with Lagmeister, Harrier and someone else who's name is evading me at the moment.

"Om nom nom om nom" lol

Cheers.

Had a game earlier where we killed the survivors at the end of Blood Harvest, then the whole infected team got in the getaway vehicle :D

Had a good laugh tonight as well, close game (was something like 5955 to 5934 at the end) gg guys :)

Hahaha that was funny, finished them all off and the back door to the APC opens and you're "Get in guys!! Get in!".

The game after that we had with Kroot's ~9-11 was pretty decent after the team balancing. Really close game with like 20 points in the whole thing! Nice to see him picking things up quick, soon he will be trusted enough to receive invites to the pro games on a regular basis ;)

Finally got myself into a server/game & the game/system completely locked up, By the time I had rebooted the server was full, Gutted & Sorry guys.

Sorry guys - Internet connection totally flaked out for about 2 minutes there. Typical really, just get into a game as well. Strange thing is that my internet connection is usually rock solid. Couldn't find the game servers after either.

Got kicked from a game last night. I literally bought L4d recently as i've been trying to get back into PC gaming. Sigh... was branded as a noob when I played infected. I'll have to improve! But overall i had quite abit of fun! Haven't played PC games since TBC though. Oh well!

Don't worry about it. I've found recently that there are one or two people with short fuses who forget that there are quite a few new guys playing on the servers since the sale. But like you say, practice and a playing with a good group working as a team is all you need :)

Edit: and if someone kicked you that's pretty weak on their part tbh

Edit2: Feel free to add me as a friend on Steam, I'd be happy to get in some practice with ya :D

I've added ya mate! Maybe tomorrow perhaps! Many thanks for allowing me to have games with you

sucks mate, just get some practice in!

some tips (survivor)

-You can use melee to get hunters and smokers off your team mates, shooting them off works as well but sometimes melee is better to use.

-Stick with your team as much as you can, don't go running off by yourself, the number of times I see people doing this is amazing. a group of people fighting together is much harder to take down as infected. If your team is rushing through then try to keep with them.

-Teamwork - Really try to help your team out, if the whole team covers eachother you should at the least perform well. This game is quite unlike most others I have played in that you really need to constantly be on your feet with what's going on around you, paying attention to when your team mates get pounced or smokered etc.

-Communicate, it's a great idea to have a microphone so you can call for help, and equally so you can discuss tactics. I only really tend to use mine in OCUK games but it's nice to have one anyway.

-Try not to shoot the boomer when he is nearby, if you can melee it away first and then shoot him when he is out of range of your teammates, this isn't always possible.

-Keep an ear out for the infected, the smoker and boomer especially make a ton of noise and if you have headphones or decent speakers you should be able to pinpoint where they are (i've shot a few infected through walls before with some luck)

-You can shoot through walls! it's sometimes a last ditch effort but if you don't have line of sight and a teammate is pounced behind a wall some guns allow you to shoot the hunter off them. The assault rifle for example.

-When the tank comes, try to play smart. The tank is what makes or breaks most games for the team so you need to focus fire on it when you can, set it on fire with molotovs, spread out a bit, and try to keep out of it's way :p

-Use melee! in this game melee is very powerful, use it to help a team mate who has been puked on by a boomer to keep the zombies away, and when you're reloading your shotgun you can use melee as well.

-Use small spaces/rooms. There are numerous places in the game that are easier to defend than others, hallways, rooms with doors etc all make great places to defend against a horde of zombies.

-Use pipe bombs/molotovs where appropriate, pipe bombs can take care of a lot of infected if your team has a lot of zombies inc, molotovs are great for the tank or covering a blanket area on the ground, just be careful not to molotov your own team as the range of the fire is quite big.

(Infected)

As infected there are some things you can to perform better, for example:

-As boomer always try to spawn ahead of the survivors, never behind really unless they are stalled and the opportunity is good. This is because the boomer is incredibly loud and you will be killed long before you get in range. As smoker you acn pretty much spawn wherever you want but there are some places that are better to attack from than others (ie you can drag people off edges as smoker). As hunter again wherever you want.

-Try to attack together, against an organised team one hunter pouncing someone doesn't do much as they shoot/melee you right off. But if you get smoker grabbing one, boomer spawning and puking on them all, and then hunters going in you can do quite a lot more damage as a unit.

-As boomer try to spawn as close to them as you can, you need to be out of line of sight but there are numerous corners, trees, and objects that you can spawn behind to faciliate this. After you spawn you will be very obvious so move fast to puke on as many survivors as possible. If they don't kill you right away either retreat until you're recharged or charge into them and hope they shoot you, spreading the boomer infection to others.

-Pick your location to attack, there are some places that are easy to defend and others that aren't, you will learn them from experience a little but it helps to attack at a location that is generally harder for the enemy (i.e in a zone that is quite open, nearby to a witch, when the tank's spawned, etc)

-Pounce from high! as hunter if you land a pounce on someone from high up you deal additional initial damage proportional to the distance travelled.

-cover eachother, if a smoker has pulled a survivor away from the others get ready to help them out as much as you can, as hunter you can get in position to pounce anyone that comes to free them etc.

That's about all I can think of atm :P

u dont need to pounce from high as a hunter :) dmg depends on how far you jump (distance not height) :) but ye it's easier to get higher dmg pounces when you jump of the roof etc..

A very simple, but effective tactic is to chain up pounces/smokes with a boomer.

A pounced/smoked teammate will more often than not draw the other survivors out together to free them, allowing for an easy puke getting 3 or all of them.

This works a treat in the hospital given all the corridors and rooms.

Good post :)

Also don't forget about the hunter's secondary attack - scratches do 10 damage each, so I love creeping up behind survivors (if you're not crouching, you don't make any noise) and scratching away. This is especially useful if one of them is on low health - you can very quickly incap them, and they don't see/hear it coming.

Ooh, I'll keep that in mind, even just getting out 10 points of damage is better than pouncing and getting instantly killed/knocked off before doing any at all :)

Tips from me:- (apologies if i double up on comments from above posts, my memory is shocking at the moment - too many games of L4D!)

Survivors

1. Stick together, move quickly. The longer you stay on the map the more damage can be brought against you by the infected. There's a fine line between running ahead like idiots and stopping in one place for too long though and it is difficult to guage on some maps/levels. If someone does get dragged backwards or pounced, try to stay in groups of two as a minimum - the moment you get left alone is the moment the whole thing goes pear shaped.

2. Group together in times of need. If someone gets boomered or the hoarde comes, stay in very close proximity to each other. I'm not talking about closet camping but melee and shooting in close groups will put any group of zombies away in quick order.

3. Avoid those pounces. Even when not going anywhere, if you're just moving from side-to-side it makes it much tougher for a high pouncing hunter to hit his target. If you get boomered, try and stick underneath overhanging buildings to prevent the high pounces.

4. Stay alert. When you're boomered you can see next to naff all. However, you should still be aware of where the other players are and make an attempt to get those pesky hunters off if you can.

5. Stop and Drop. I've lost count of the number of times when playing with randoms when I get left behind in an area where I can't be helped. On the drop in the finale of BH or the sewer entrance in NM. Think about where the other players are and let everyone know when you're ready to drop down.

6. Listen out. As mentioned above, the best clue to the whereabouts of the infected is the noise they make. Without wasting too much ammo, a few bursts of fire into the trees can explode (and annoy) the best boomers.

7. Look high. Keep an eye out for those high hunters. On nearly every level there are high spots for hunters to wait for you to come into range. If one or two of the group glance up every now and again - high pounces can be avoided.

8. Use those crawl spaces. Bigger infected find if immensely difficult to sqeeze their fat asses into enclosed spaces. Camping is frowned upon though, so don't spend too much time in there.

9. Fire the tank. Light him up and leg it. Stick together as best as possible and try to find a nice open space. Also, it's quite amusing to play Benny Hill during this sequence :)

Infected

1. Plan ahead. Don't all rush in as individuals. Team work is the key to success with the infected as they are much weaker than the survivors. 1 against 4 is never going to work.

2. Normally the best tactic is to boomer, then attack - although smoker, then boomer works well in certain circumstances.

3. Get High. Hunters do the best damage from high up on the terrain. Try to pounce for maximum 25 damage.

4. Split them up. Dragging a survivor backwards or off ledges has several possibilities.
a) The remaining 3 will come back to help. Not a lot you can do except maybe boomer trap them all.
b) Two come back to help. Boomer the two that come back and hunter the one left ahead on his own.
c) Only one comes back to help. Hunter or prevent him from helping the stranded smokered player as long as possible.

Planned correctly the smoker can do a good amount of damage if the remaining team can stall the other players. Especially if the hunters wait in ambush.

5. Ambush tactics. There are certain places on each map that make effective ambush spots. I'm not going to list them all as you'll get the idea once you've played awhile. They mostly involve the players having to climb up ladders. Planning ahead helps, watch out for molotovs. Smoker drag, then boomer and then hunter combinations work wonders in these situations.

6. Stop them dropping. Catching a survivor unaware on the top of a drop point means certain death. Have two or more infected ready to pounce and stop them dropping can settle a tight game.

7. Tanking it. If you become the tank. Don't just rush in blindly. Take your time and allow you team to respawn. Throw rocks from a distance to reset the control counter if possible. Don't fall for the molotov traps. Try to trap the survivors in tight spots, the remaining team should be behind them as they will certainly be running backwards through the map in an attempt to evade the tank - especially if the tank is on fire. Boomers are the best option when the tank is around as the last thing the survivors need to deal with is a load of zombies. As the tank, head for the slowest player or those that are boomered. If a teammate has pounced a survivor, try to stop the other players from freeing him by pushing them backwards. If you can kill one or two players the game will be very tough for them against 4 infected.

8. Go green. If the survivors have been boomered, you should be aiming for the players with green and not purple outlines. They are dealing with the onslaught of zombies and cannot help anyone else but themselves.

A word on etiquette.

It's not nice to use exploits on friends games, it just gets peoples backs up and rage quits ensue.

Closet camping is not very nice either, nor is it fun. Spending 5 minutes in a closet during a cresendo moment is boring and not fun for either team. Thats not to say you should stand in the open while they pound you - be sensible.

Rage Quits - Nuff said.

Enjoy - it's only a game! :) :)

[OcUK] Defrag

Every time I get a good pounce, no one ever seems to notice/care :( It doesn't happen often you know, I usually miss by a millimetre :(

Last night's second game was fun, but odd. I mean what was it with the tanks in the first two levels? It was funny when I got a tank in the first level of no mercy and crept up behind the survivors, who thought they were safe in the house :)

@ samuelc, feel free to add me (see names thread) if you want, I don't mind playing a little with newbies (as long as they actually learn from their mistakes and listen to a few tips now and then ;))

Thanks guys, I had some great games tonight! Especially that last one with Lagmeister, Harrier and someone else who's name is evading me at the moment.

Was it Link to Insanity by any chance? Cus I had a game with that team...

With regards to rage quits as mentioned by Del above, I for one will kick anyone who has rq'd from any game I am in from my own lobbies in future, and delete them from my friends list. It gets dull fast and often spoils the game for the rest of us. If the teams are too uneven, talk about swapping someone over, or just carry on. From my experience the team that wins the earlier rounds quite often gets beaten in later ones so it all evens out anyway.
