I've only ever seen the door bashing one been done, once, not many people know about it and if they do, they tend to have the common decency to NOT do it.

As for the box thing I've never seen that utilised either.

I will moan, damn it! 'Cause I paid good money for L4D, a primarily online game, only to have essentially ruined by (let's face it) kids who think it's 'leet' to break the game. If you're not one of these people then kudos to you, sir. I can only assume that you (and the rest of you) are either being flippant or merely playing devil's advocate by suggesting these ‘strategies’ are legitimate or intentional.

Big words? My post made (for the most part) perfect sense. :p
 
I know it's a little contreversial, but I think all_talk is far more fun/social, and it's not like we're playing serious clan games when we play Vs :)

I dunno... I just really enjoy hearing people scream or moan when I surprise them with a hunter pounce/smoker tongue...
 
See opinions like this just boggle the mind. Do you seriously honestly think that Valve would create an "alternative route" that involved hitting a door repeately, a door which shows absolutely no sign of breaking apart at all until the moment it is destroyed, as an alternative to a crescendo event that triggers when you press a button? The reason the door is breakable is so the Tank can get through it, if Valve had intended for survivors to break it down then they would've made it so it visibly damaged the more times you struck it, etc.

It does visibly damage. It gets big gaping holes in it! Or at least does for me...
If it were just for the tank, then would it not be all lit up in yellow and not breakable by survivors? Like the walls?
Can you apply your same logic to the crates/vent route?
And yes, I DO honestly believe these were design choices. The people who made these things know exactly how they work when they put them there.

Don't hate me for that, we are allowed to differ in opinion and I've already stated I won't use either option on Aekerons servers (and in fact on other servers, since I like the mini-finale's. :)

What happens if the Tank spawns behind the door if the Survivors have skipped it? It's an indestructable door.

As I understand it, tanks spawn at the start of the map and are then triggered by proximity, so this cannot happen.

Hmm, I play for fun and to do well, that's just a decade plus online gaming of must kill must shoot must come top of score boards that has been drilled into me :D

I get frustrated if my efforts are going no where unjustly and coordinating by typing whilst playing just isn't my cup of tea.

I do agree tho Aeke, if you have 8 real friends on it would be fun to hear some all talk but for most of the time I'd prefer team only. It's not all about serious business at the end of the day but I like the thrill of challenge and a decent opposition!

Hehe, I paid money for it too! Good thing is, you don't really get the OcUK people using these map 'bugs' thank god.

But nope, 'm not one of those people who do it, I just don't see a major issue as it isn't 'really' an exploit as such, the pipebomb exploit on no mercy is an exploit for example :) These are more map 'issues' if you can call them that...I'm not sure or not, but I swear you can give an item a property so only certain people/entities can give damage to it.....So maybe they can implement that for the door issue.

Perhaps I'll make a seperate "Serious play" server or something that has all_talk disabled.

edit: What we need is a mod that enables to kinds of talk: Default to everyone, press another button to do team-only.

I'm the damn opposite. So used to talking for clan matches/raid leading in WoW I kinda have a bad habit of coercing people into doing what I want them too :)

It's a skill I have aquired over the years but hopefully don't **** people off or ruin anyones games because of it!

You know not many people know these things are what you call exploits. I am fairly new to this game and I watched a team smashing down the door instead of using the lift and though that was just an alternate route. I mean, do you have to go one way only? Are there no alternate routes? I don't know as I am not familiar with the maps yet. What is the definition of an exploit anyway? Is it like in Street Figther 2 where Guile could do the invisible throw and handcuffs or Skywalking in Counter Strike :D

I will tell you a funny exploit that I am ashamed to say :p The chicken mod on Condition Zero was pretty fun. If you tk'ed a team mate and he turned you into a chicken if you typed in console before you were killed as a chicken 'kill' then you would continually from that point respawn as a chicken. Now, I have seen a server with 4-5 chickens with 250 heath and jumping and running much faster than the standard human player models. I even seen 3-4 chickens on each side running around fighting each other. That really messed up the server of 32 people. I seen teams being gang banged by bunch of chickens. Remind me of the Alfred Hitchcock film 'The Birds' :p

Suffice to say the chicken mod was eventually taken off multiple servers that me and my mates played on and all aforementioned players bannned ;)

Thats what I call a great exploit :D

This has been debated before, my definition of an exploit would be something along the lines of:

Using a bug or cheat that developers didn't purposley include into a game to be used, with no intention of playing the game in the way it was meant to be played. Thus resulting in getting on everyone's boobies who you are playing with.

Tactic: Throwing a pipebomb it as a horde comes to buy yourself some time as it distracts them. This was intentionally put in the game, it's a valid strategy - if you are lucky enough to have found some pipes. When and how you use it, is up to the player indvidiually or the team.

Exploit/Bug: Using the molotov/pipe trick where you have one already, throw it, cycle weapons whilst picking up the one on the table to receive/throw infinate grenades (This may have been fixed but was a known issue).

Exploit Map: All crowding under the ramp on NM5 making you invunerable to boss infected. Game probably wasn't tested enough for developers to realise. (Bare in mind that there is a coop version and VS version, very similar but small differences).

lol, I'm imagining you stood there as a hunter, trying to mime to the other infected "they went that way, round the staircase - one's on low health go get 'em boys!".. and everyone else just shrugs at you and runs off after the survivors :p
 
Had a boring game last night with some OcUK peeps who rushed through every level of Blood Harvest, bypassing the various sheds/barns/houses. Tried to point out that the game was meant to be fun but their opinion was that you were less likely to reach the safe house if you played the fun way.

On a seperate note;

Knubje, you are a little bossy in game, but you still play for the fun of it. Was a good game the other night.

I know what you mean, personally I don't like to move until everything in site has been shot!

even at the safehouse, its nice to wait around a little to take out the last set of hoards turning up! :)

Yeah, thats the raid leader in me :( I just like to see the team perform to the best of its ability (and I hate getting killed) :D If that means sorting out the slackers then I don't mind doing it :D

I do try and relax and have fun 95% of the time, laughing with people and commending good play. I do and have fun with people who I am on the same team with, hopefully not too off putting! I'm no rage quitter though, which is something :D
