***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Was that on the OCUK servers? If so, the spawning infected exploit should've been fixed by a sourcemod plugin I installed. I'll have to re-look at the issue if not.

The people I've given admin to on the servers are well within their powers/rights to ban people that act up in this way.

No mate it was completley random. Clicked Play VS, "Quick Match" and joined somewhere random with random lamers :)

Admin eh..... :D

Indeed ;) I'll be looking to add some more soon but not just yet (waiting until after the update and all the hassle for me that will involve).

In other news, I've just added an experimental plugin.

Restricted Zones

This plugin stops players from entering certain areas that could be regarded as an exploit area in Vs mode (e.g. the ramp on the No Mercy finale).

Please let me know how this works for you all. I have my doubts about it so if you think it's rubbish I'll remove it :)

I joined it but the server was always empty:confused:

It happens, we don't always play 24/7 you know :p

That and people seem to create game lobbies and join a random server on here.....

I really wish there was a way to create a game lobby, then 'add' the server you wish to join once clicking search for server.

I know I could join the server and call a vote to return to the lobby or something, but it's not the same.

Is there a list as to what parts it blocks off? Some would be good to definitely be blocked off.

I'd look at the link but im a bit busy atm

Sadly, the details are rather sparse atm :/ It'll be interesting to see what people think after playing around with it.

There is a way to specify a server within a lobby but it's possibly a bit technical for the average player :/ I'll try and find the link again sometime and post up the details.

I've been thinking of installing this plugin, which will make it so that when you finish a campaign in Vs or Co-op, you'll cycle onto the next campaign in the map sequence.

Would anybody like that on the server?

In theory it would be good Aekeron, but it depends if I was having fun with the people on that server. I usually wait until the end of a campaign and quit anyway, generally I only like playing a campaign at a time before giving my eyes a rest.

Seconded really, if people wish to make another campaign they tend to just start another map manually...

That and theres the 'lobby bug' which stops the lobby leader from finding a server again :p

No idea if it's apparent on your servers though Aekeron.

Yeah, I see what you're saying there.

I tend to do the same sometimes, though other times it really irritates me that we all get dropped to lobby/whatever.

With this plugin active you would at least have the option of carrying on or disconnecting if you wanted to. I think it'd help keep people on the servers for longer.

The problem with it atm is that the servers would have to share a map sequence (e.g. can't assign one for Vs and one for Co-op). Obviously the way around that is to use seperate server directories/instances, but I quite like the fact that -fork takes a lot of hassle out of the admin of the server..so..hmm..

I wouldn't be shocked - I pretty much never use lobbies myself so I couldnt' be sure to be honest with you :)

I was reading about that plugin.

Bear in mind it's not been approved yet, and it employs a timer that runs every 1/2 second. Whilst I'm still learning SourceMod myself it doesn't sound "healthy" to run a timer that fast - especially when the code that the timer runs contains loops, etc itself.

As far as I can make out too the timer is never stopped and will check every 1/2 second the position of every survivor even if the map isn't one of the two where it actually moves someone.

Just my 2p - not a diss on the author as the sentiment is sound, but it needs some optimisation imo.

I've read the same and I have my doubts about it - I'll be keeping an eye on the resource usage of the servers with this plugin enabled and on the user feedback I get from everyone here.

I wouldn't be too shocked if the plugin comes back off the server again, but I thought it was worth giving it a whirl whilst I was messing with config/etc anyhow :)

Yeah, I mainly didn't want my plugin ending up getting blamed for low FPS or something. :p

Lol :p

Your plugin has been fine since the latest update. I've seen at least two groups complete an entire co-op campaign on there with no issues (monitoring the server from HLSW).

I've noticed no apparent slow downs as such with your plugin, just occasionally the health counter will skip a few as it refreshes if a lot of health is taken off in one go sort of thing :p

No biggy though.

The % health counter for infected?

If so that is handled by an independant update that happens every 2 seconds, it's not an instant update because I thought that would create screen lag (not to mention constant updates when the Tank is being shot at).

Exactly :)

Nout wrong with it don't worry I wasen't bashing it :p

Just as you said, it updates, I think it's when it goes to update then suddenly someone fires another auto shotty round into the tanks face :p

I guess that just underlines the insane damage that the auto-shotguns do to Tanks :)

Maybe it would be a good idea to try leaving one of your servers constantly rotating both current campaigns and adding others as they become available so eventually all campaigns will be rotated by your server as standard, but leave a voting option so that those on the server always have the option of changing to another one. After the voted campaign finishes, server goes to the next one in the rotation. If the players want a different campaign again, then they can always vote for it.

Indeed - I've no intention ever of removing map/campaign and kick voting. They are all vote features that are absolutely needed by players in my opinion.

In a perfect world the two Vs servers would just rotate both campaigns endlessly, one starting with No Mercy and the other with Blood Harvest (and obviously more as they are introduced). I'm sure there would be some hardcore players that would stay on for a 2nd or even a 3rd campaign, and having them on there would entice more players due to people using "join a game in progress".

Aekeron we were playin a few co-ops on yoru server this avo, there was a few occasions when players would warp across the rooms a little, couldnt reproduce it so it seemed random.

Love the script you have to block the exploit on NM3 i think where guys used to bash down the door to avoid the crescendo. Team tried it today only to see the message pop up that exloit was being attempted was classic stuff :)
