***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

They're hosted at a datacentre in Manchester, not too far from where I live :)

Idaq is the company - I recommend them for colo if you're in the Manchester area.

How much are you paying for a box or is it some work deal or something? Own hardware or what? Can you give some details as I am interested (if you don't mind).

I assume you got one box running the 3 different(?) servers?

As uv's said, it's our own box (cost ~£300 to build, though that involved a *LOT* of shopping around) and is hosted under colo costs. If you wanted to rent a server of similar spec you're looking at more like £100+/month.

Contact me on steam sometime if you do decide to go the colo route. I can tell you where to get the parts/etc and put you in contact with the right people :)

If you where to do this I would recommend NOT to Colo, you can get a half decent spec server which would run a couple of Source servers no problem for £45+Vat month. This way you do not even have to worry about the hardware and if something does go wrong with the kit you don't have to trek down the DC.

I've been hosting a L4d server on a £15pm VPS, if I break it.... which I've done a few times then I just hit reimage then restore a backup.

Only reason L4D is down at the moment is the poxy 5GB of disk space meant I couldn't get UT3 on there and install it. The new contracts come with 10GB which would be better. I've had this one a couple of years though... thinking of an upgrade to the next package up. Bandwidth is also good 100Mbps with 1000GB month.

Seems to run a 16 player UT3 server just fine and no contact from the hosting company unhappy with my deeds.

Aekeron has me thinking though, I'm not far from Manchester and I've been looking around. If you go second hand you can get a 3.0Ghz dual core 2GB 1U with a Hdd for £150 or less... Just the colo charge of £47pm and the hassle of having to go and sort out any issues / access puts me off.

A bit more space so I could have several servers installed and pick which one to run would do me just fine...

Seems the cheapest way of playing host

280GTX SLI L4D Maxed goodness here i come :D

Has this game got harder ?. Was playing it last night with a few friends and the was hordes gallore.

Seemed like every corner activated a horde. Crazy

That will be the AI director.... if you're doing well you get a lot more incomming. I had a blast on normal last night and it was pretty much a stream of Tank, Witch, Special whereas when I've played it on higher settings there are less incomming but they do more damage if they get close enough.

Seriously needs the new content and a better way of joining games. The server browser is very hit and miss. You'd expect better considering this is the same company that gave us CS:S.

I can still only join servers from the USA. I tried giving the ingame browser a try as well and its pants for vs games. The really weird thing is if i host a game on my uk clan server the only people who join are americans, its really doing my head in. Hardly play the game because of this sadly.
