***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Sorry had to leave earlier. Had the wife on my back. Was just getting into it as well.

Anyway probably did you guys a favour the amount of damage I was 'not' doing....

Need some practice !!!!

I think I'm going to have to uninstall L4D and burn my steam account.

5 1/2 hours in one game today, 4 1/2 yesterday ...

I need to invest in my real life !!!!

Expert seems to have gone up a notch ... great game to all though

Ah but at least it isnt costing you anything money wise :p

I wonder if someone could help me as I am having some issues with the game. I am having problems with aiming in that the mouse control feels weird and disconnected. The tracking slows up and down all the time and without vsync enabled it is worse and seems to do some sort of rubber banding (if that makes sense) when moving the mouse around.

It almost feels like some sort of framerate skipping, which I do not think it is. I have had issues with framerate skipping in other games which I have sorted by capping the framerate. In Left4Dead I am unable to do this.

I am running everything maxed and the frame rate is usually over a hundred and very occasionally dropping to 55, so its not performance related.

I am at work so I have not been able to test out what I read on another thread where someone turned off multi processor support which helped with their jerking and stuttering.

I'll be hooking up to this group tonight then!

Played with some of you guys a few days back hadn't realised OcUK had their own group. Look forward to forcing some 13 year olds to rage quit...and possibly a good brawl too!

You could go to the video options, and set it to borderless windowed mode (So it looks exactly the same as if it was full screen...)

This is how I'm running my game, as I would start a map, and it would jerk about and 'lag' for about 5 minutes...which obviously was annoying as I couldn't play.

I didn't fancy disabling the multirendering, just because basically....So borderless windowed mode was the way forward for me :)

Multi Core processing has ruined many peoples games, the effects are varied but they quite often manifest as skipping, or mouse jerking or whatever you wanna call it. It probably is that, and I didn't notice any loss in performance without it either.

It doesn't have to be disabled in the console like some people suggest, there is a switch in options.

No that's down to bad design of the game. In addition to the fact that the OS plays silly blighters with thread scheduling which the games developers should plan for. One option is to lock your game to a specific CPU core using affinity.. but it's all down to bad developers without a clue of threaded and parallel systems.

I have not played at all this weekend due to other commitments so will be looking to play this week a few nights!

Many people sent game invites etc over the weekend, some I had a chance to reply to saying I could not play whilst others I was AFK so missed entirely so don't count it as being ignored! :(

Thanks guys, some good info. Sounds like a multi-core issue. I will paly around with the settings tonight. I do not think using only 1 core will be an issue as I have performance to spare.

Hopefully this will allow me to get more kills cause I am being out-killed by my nephew (a console kiddy) and first time PC online gamer. It's embarrassing as I have been playing PC shooters for decades :(

just got this in the sale ,cheap
can some one send an invite to ld4 ocuk group please
steam=alexanderd28

cheers

Not everyone has problems with multiple threads in L4D though, I don't so it depends on the rest of the system really.
Guys, I'm talking specifically about Left 4 Dead, and yes, the Multi Core processing option destroys the game for a ridiculous number of gamers. Valve broke it in a patch a few months ago and havn't fixed it yet, leaving a large number of gamers completley clueless as to what is happening.

Typically if you are experiencing odd performance issues in L4D that you can't explain, Multi Core is the first option to change.

I disabled that, and it fixed one of my issues...but i didnt like the fact i had to disable that option.

So, I put it in borderless window mode, and it worked just the same :) So hey.

Try both options, see which works the best.
