***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Had a fun game last night with icey_haj and some others, though getting on the boat on normal was MUCH easier than whatever the difficulty was the first time I played that level, hehe :)
 
I played for a level or two last night with Meddle, Noodle et al, but I had to leave - I just cannot bear playing on all-talk servers. Thankfully it meant I missed Meddles shocking use of an exploit! Naughty boy! :eek:

I play with Meddle and others frequently and we largely know how to play together so the inability to talk would be less of an issue, though still frustrating; but I was stuck on the opposite side with 'strangers' (Noodle and others). I have no complaints about their ability, but my real 'ability' is more about good tactics and coordination than lightning reflexes, and I felt really crippled on all-talk.

In fact, on a number of occasions I was pounced while I tried to type messages to my teammates:

'[Types] I think we should flank around the...'

<bang>

'NOM NOM NOM'

'cjmUK is incapacitated;

F*cksocks!

I know some guys like all-talk servers when they just want to mess about with a group of mates, and I wouldn't want to deny them that, but it would be nice to specify whether you would accept and all-talk server or not.
 
Wait, whats the exploit, that you can bypass the safe room door?

I think I would RQ if someone glitched through the door, that's really out of order.

Finally got onto a server with people on it and got team killed instantly by spuddyt, Monkey Boy and [TCP] Melon Wizard Lars.

Is there any chance of me getting into a decent game, any specific times they happen etc.
 
I usually start a lobby at around 7:30-8pm. I look down my friends list of people not in a game normally and then move on to people who may be in game. Add me and next time you see me load, ask for an invite or join me :)
 
Does anyone play at around 22:30? I get home from work at around 22:00 so can't join these earlier games that start at 20:00 ish. Usually I will be with one or two of my RL friends and the remaining slots are taken up by randoms which can be plebs or french(;)).

It would be cool to get some good people in our games.
 
Some of you may have noticed that my new net conn is abit crap. It is not uncommon for me to get dumped back at the main menu with a "no steam_id" message. It happened to me last night, and the night before while I was the tank :( Dunno if it went to someone else or went AI. My download speed is quite good, but my latency is awful. Using speedtest.net my ping is always over 100 (120 - 180 m/s) which in this day and age is rubbish, obviously getting worse if someone else in the house is d/ling.

It was some random server as the OcUK servers were all full, hence crappy alltalk being on. I can understand it for inter-team banter, but Valve should add a hotkey for team talk only, as I'm sure has been said many a time. Having the choice would be rgeat fun as you could insult / humiliate the opposition whilst still being able to coordinate attacks.

Looking back all we had to do was vote return to lobby and find another server.

I've got a plugin installed on the fragM servers that means you can still alltalk when you want to. There's a thread about the plugin here:

I agree that having the ability to do both is very useful/good...So my thanks again to whoever pointed out this plugin to me :)

I would have suggested as much, but I was invited late by Meddle - so I assumed that it was everyone's favourite OcUK server, and I didn't want to rock the boat! :o

The concept of all-talk and team-talk buttons is a great idea. You could question why it isn't a part of all MP environments, but I guess L4D is the first game where teamwork really is essential - I bet you headsets have sold well these last 3 months!

I haven't been able to play much this week, but I shall be back on tonight guys, if there's already a game or two on and both are full I'll host another...

Note however I was up all night last night working so I may well suck.
 
Who was the other person that had a server they wanted to add to the group lists? Could you email me in trust and I'll get details to you.

I'll also forward my server configs and sourcemod config/plugin list so we can try and get some kind of parity of server settings (I'll do the same with you Seaniboy, if you like?).
