***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

8v8 Server Updated

I've been getting a little bored with the 8v8 server, so to spice things up a bit I've made a few changes in the way that it works. Standard infected are now harder to kill, but you have more ammo.

List of changes:

Survivors:
-M16 Max ammo increased
-SMG Max Ammo Increased
-Shotgun Max Ammo Increased (but not by the same amount, spamming autoshottie nolonger helps, ammo wise)
-Hunting Rifle Max Ammo Increased

Infected:
-Witch Health Decreased from 5x Normal to 3.5x Normal
-Witch Damage Increased from 30 per swipe to 50
-Smoker Tongue Health reduced to 5x normal instead of 10x Normal
-Smoker tongue pulls faster
-Smoker claw does more damage
-Boomer range Increased
-Boomer does more damage per hit on claw
-Common Infected Health Increased from 100 to 200 (normal=50)
-Car alarm time shortened back to nearly normal
-Car alarm distance increased
-Tank damage per hit reduced to nearer normal
-Tank speed reduced as normal
-Tank fire damage Increased
-Tank Health Increased
-Ghost Tank Plugin Installed. Configured to speed tank up 20% if set on fire also if a player is low on health they will still go flying before being incapped.

Any Input is welcome. I know balance worked quite well as it was, but I just think the game needed shaking up a little again. We'll see how it all plays out.

Have you seen the mod on hobz's server that lets the smoker move after pulling a survivor?

it's awesome when a smoker pulls someone then starts running (well walking) away with them :p
 
Ahh nooo I really dislike common who have higher health, it doesn't work because even on standard health they manage to swarm you (think Blood Harvest level 1), so with the extra health the survivors are going to be getting hurt a lot more because T1 weapons just don't hurt common enough and yeah it makes the T1 shotty and the T2 sniper useless)

Ammo has never been a problem, so you don't need more ammo.

The only good changes I have seen so far are for the special infected and listed below:
  • Smoker Cloud Damage
  • Longer Tongue
  • Boomer bitch slap (stuns players)
  • Ghost Tank
  • Tank with more health
  • The witch is just broken no matter what you do, so personally I think the only way to make her better is for her to initial a large horde if you set her off!

Its your server though, so obviously i'm not criticising your decision, but the above changes are definitely the ones that I have seen that made the game more fun without hurting the balance to much!

We'll see how it turns out. With regards to Commons doing more damage now and slowing you down, that's the point ;)
 
I see what you're saying PoD, but in 8vs8, double SI health really doesn't make much of a difference

With 8 mad men running around even with just pistols, it's tought enough for an SI
 
still think the stronger commons will cause players to disregard the hunting rifle. Pretty much if you get boomed in the open you are as good as dead since the hunting rifle is a shocking weapon in these situations
 
I decided to play a bit today for the first time in a few months but literally after 5 mins my pc screen went black and there was a repeating sound which i had to restart to get rid of :confused: weird because i can play tf2 fine. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Try dropping shaders to medium in graphics options and see what happens then. :)

Yeah I agree and I think it would be better to just double the horde size/time and increase the ammo than raise the common health and double the ammo.

With smokers bumps on then it makes the game a lot better.

boomer + cloud damage is a wicked combination
 
Doubling the horde size is all well and good, but you have to take into account the strain it puts on the server. More health and speed makes horde harder with less impact on server performance...

You reckon I should buy this game now or wait for Left for Dead 2?

Well l4d2 is 2 months away. I would say wait, but L4D1 is a lot of fun and you should probably buy both.

And I don't know how to make the horde length last longer without making the game endless hording unfortunately...

Anyway, I thought it worked pretty well tonight. 8v8 needed a good shake up again. :D

As Link has said, not doable. More zombies at once = longer horde anyhow.

I'm sure everyone remembers the endless hordes during the finale in the early 8v8 implementation...

Crash Course Achievements
I was looking at my Xbox Live stuff, and it says 50/60 achievements unlocked. The new achievements are there! There are ten new Crash course achievements, and I'll list them here for you guy, who will get them, too:

Crash-proof
Survive the Crash Course Campaign.

Quick Power
Restart the generator within 30 seconds of it shutting off in the Crash Course campaign.

The Littlest Genocide
Kill 5,359 Infected in the Crash Course campaign.

Smash Hit
Win a Versus campaign of Crash Course.

Truck Stop
Your team wipes all Survivors after the escape vehicle has opened in Crash Course.

20 Car Pile-up
As a Tank hit 20 Survivors with a car in the Crash Course campaign.

Jumpin' Jack Smash
Pounce a Survivor for 25 points of damage in the Crash Course campaign.

Slippery Pull
Smoker pull a bile-covered Survivor until you hold him during Crash Course.

Tank Stumble
Stun a Tank with an explosion in the Crash Course campaign.

Wipefest
Your team incapacitates three Survivors within five seconds in the Crash Course campaign.

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!! :D
My only worry is all the servers are gonna be absolutely packed :( Do us all a favour and host the game from your own computer IF YOU CAN, to avoid the mess a la survivor mode :p that was a complete nightmare...
