System is called NGP (Next Generation Portable), and is due to be released starting from the holiday season this year.

The full conference in HD video courtesy of Gamespot http://uk.gamespot.com/ngp/sports/hotshotsgolf/video/6287040?hd=1

EDIT - Apparently the name NGP is a 'codename' atm so it may or may not be the systems final name yet.

EDIT - Multiple SKU's are still yet to be confirmed, there are conflicting reports regarding that information atm.

EDIT 2 - Right, it's seems that there could still be multiple SKU's but they will all have 3G.

Some basic pics...

From what I can gather from most of the live blogs the device is about 85-90% comparable to the PS3 graphically which is very impressive imo.

Also as msmalls74 has reminded me Trophies are in.

Looks like the NGP is going to have a new proprietary memory card for storage and also Jack Trenton from Sony apparently said that the NGP will not have any internal storage :-(, but you can save your games progress on the game carts themselves at least

According to a source on Eurogamer the NGP is rumoured to have a battery life of 4-5 hours, but take this with a pinch of salt atm.

Some interesting tit bits from live blogs..

"Kojima wants to create an experience where you can play something on the PS3, then put it on the NGP and take it with you and resume your experience."
"Dungeon Defenders was meant for the PS3 but was moved over to the portable. And nothing was reduced in the process. The team could make the move over in just one week of development time.
"They're using PS3 shaders, etc on the NGP"
"Call of Duty confirmed for the NGO."
"these are analogue sticks, not nubs like on the current PSP. They're raised from the surface."
"There will be physical media for games, a New Game Media, a flash memory-based card."
"The touchscreen on the back is the same size as the OLED screen, so the location of your finger is mapped directly to the game screen."

From the live feed I was watching the loads times were non existent, instant loading!!, I really like the idea of flash carts, as you say much better than UMD.

I assume there will be video of this up somewhere? I'll haev to have a watch when I get home this afternoon.

Not gonna be cheap. I cannot pay more for a handheld than a home console out of principle.

I hear this a lot but why?, advanced micro electronics are always expensive, that has always been the case, the 3DS as it stands @ £230 is already the same price as a PS3 and 360, look at price of smart phones purchased outside of a contract, the price of a mid range iTouch for example.

I don't think there will be proper video uploaded anywhere, I think the only stream available was the one I was watching which was a very poor quality ustream that was mostly in Japanese from Kotako.

Simply down to me. I don't take these things out and about, I simply like to play them in bed or when I'm on my playing Eve for example. So for ME, paying that much money for those reasons is a massive waste.
When they drop in price which of course they will as new versions come out, I'll likely pick one up.

You forgot to emntion the TROPHIES lol
Running MGS4 PS3 version on this with only compromised framerate is pretty impressive TBH.

Now that looks gorgeous.

I think I might have to go Sony this time round, looks a helluva lot more impressive than the 3DS...

If they price this right Nintendo could finally have a fight on their hands for the portable market.

Looks awesome. If it is priced reasonably and the games aren't mostly all PS3 ports then I'll look to get this instead of a 3DS.

Obviously this isn't going to be released at the 3DS's price point but the fact the 3DS is already quite expensive (for a Nintendo handheld) due to the 3d screen tech it certainly gives Sony a bit of leeway, I'm hoping for £299 but I have a feeling it could hit for £349.

But what is important is how many games will be released for it.
Is it easy to program or as difficult as the PS3?
Backwards compatibility is nice, lets hope they make a CFW soon (for homebrew off course)

Well they are saying that it is very easy to port games from the PS3 to the system so I guess in theory it 'could' have as many games as the PS3 has, if it really is that easy to port them across then I imagine if the NGP takes of it will make sense for publishers to sanction ports of their new games for extra revenue without a lot of outlay.

Looks good, ill be getting the 3DS out of the 2 and wait for a pricedrop on this. I'll be guessing it'll be more expensive than the 3Ds but not more than the ps3 because placing the price higher wouldn't make much business sense.

Remember most release consoles are also partly subsidised by Sony lisencing to make the device cheaper
