Office Christmas parties

Had my Police shift one on Friday. It was messy but pretty good fun.

One of my most entertaining nights was back in the 90's at my dad's retirement night (he was in the met). I was about 20 years old and what I saw that night certainly opened my eyes to what my dad had been up to on works do's :D

I like to draw mass murderers with homophobic slurs on napkins at mine.
Funnier than it sounds, honest.

Went to mine last Friday and it was at Twickenham racecourse. It was pretty boring really with me ending up just watching everyone trying to get as drunk as possible.

Have ours this evening, black and white event, champagne and jaegerbombs upon arrival.

Dreading work tomorrow, but at least we'll all be in the same position.

We don't have one big do anymore, last do they did there was 8 off us left at the end and still £3000 behind the bar, so we had a lot of fun...

Went out with all the lads on a do last week and it's a good laugh, although we all get together (everyone that likes each other that is) and go out for a night out a few times a year.

Ours was last Friday and it was great, it was nice to go out socially with the people I work with. The office is always pretty quiet so it made a good change. It was especially nice to see someone who left a couple of months ago that I got on with really well.

Got one of these on Friday.

Do you enjoy going to these? Or dread them?
Ever done anything stupid at these over the years or seen anyone else do something embarrassing?

I usually do, mainly because the company goes pretty all-out. However, this year was different. Less money available (not a great year) and wasn't a swanky affair so it was all about the booze. I don't remember if i enjoyed it or not.

After passing bottles of wine around the train on the way in, I remember pre-drinking at Philomena's, 3 pints of Guinness in under 30 minutes... (Chairman is Irish). Then dinner @ Circus (Covent Garden), which was nice, the dancers were good ;) .
We had a few drinks and then the party started, which involved dancing and the MD pouring vodka down our throats, a few naughty employees getting frisky etc, the usual.

Skip forward to sometime early morning, i remember walking (stumbling probably) down Oxford Street on my own, REALLY uncomfortable in the groin area, eating a cold Subway because the lady who served me said it would have to be cold because they were closed, i think i exclaimed "I care not lady, for i am drunk" or some such.

Got to the Hotel (Corus, Lancaster Gate), took my shoes off and hit the bed.

Next morning i awake at 8am, with a killer headache and terrible churning stomach remembering that i'd shared my room with someone and they were gone, the room a state and my groin/upper thighs hurting like hellfire. Turns out my boxers were twisted and chafed the top-insides of my thighs (to the point they were grazed) on the 2.5-3 mile stubble back to the Hotel that i somehow managed on my own.
I rushed to the bathroom to empty my bowels, which also felt like hellfire. Took a shower (which was a bit like that Black Books episode when Bernard picks up the shower head from the sink and points it at his face), then went down to breakfast, like a zombie, just without the flesh-eating.

I still have gaps in my memory, but apparently i spaced out leaning against a lamp post outside the club for 20 minutes before grabbing my coat and leaving. Also, apparently the guy i shared the room with was asking me if i was ok, because i was loud and trashed my part of the room for no apparent reason. I also got someone kicked out of the club by pushing them off the "stage" onto the bouncer (go douche-bag me!).

Everything in between is blank and everyone else was apparently as drunk if not worse by the sounds of things. It was a bit messy for others, and controversial in regards to who they did as apposed to what.

All good fun.

Never been one to bother no. I went to one once I think because it was a free bar and free food, but I didn't stay long, not a big "get personal with the people you work with" guy, I think it rather gets in the way of what we come in to do every day, work. Objectivity is key to efficiency.

But hey, different strokes and all that.

This year it was at a crap pub anyway, the bitter tastes like **** in there and it were basically charging money to go into a pub and drink. Mental.

Had mine the Friday just past.

Done it twice now since I started here and enjoyed it. Plenty of free booze and meals are always nice. The most important thing for me is meet and network abit around our company, get to know who else does what and where within the company. That's the point of these doos for me anyway...

I couldn't disagree more. Relationships are the key to working effectively in most jobs.

Don't really have one, and I work 50 miles from home.. so it's not really practical.

We're going for a team lunch on 19th, where I will chill out but otherwise not bothered. I do miss the annual party with my previous employer!

Had mine last Thursday, accidently got stuck on the train with my boss and her friend, all I remember is admitting to my office crush and winding her up about joining another team. Not looking forward to the ribbing tomorrow.

At least I left before the new guy started to kiss other men on the lips.

i've never been to a works do where free drink is provided. :(

i think free grub and one drink bought by the boss is about the best i've managed. :o
