***** Official 2016 BBQ Thread - Chucking it Down: Proper British BBQ Weather *****

We've had some dropouts so it will be far too much but brisket makes the best chilli so it won't go to waste. Am doing the brisket overnight and ribs tomorrow for a lunchtime feast, picked up some nice salad bits too today. Forecast looks like paddling pool weather :)

I always forget! Will take some in the morning - have just topped up the smoker with more coals. It seems these homebade ones burn hot but take a while to get going. Smoker sitting at 250 with brisket at 131 after 3 hours, will wrap at 2200 and hit the sack.

Was looking at the two green eggs in the local Steamer&Co.. nice but not sure I'd get the usage out of it..

Why does that ever matter?! Seriously though, I'm a huge convert to smoking and if you have time at weekends / like meat / have friends then they are fantastically easy ways to make great BBQ.

I might need a new regular BBQ to run alongside my smoker for capacity reasons since my old cheapy one from Morrisons has developed a lovely orange coating :p

How easy/quick is it to build a Weber Kettle? :)

Ugh - still can't get the snake method to work in my Pro Q Frontier - stacked the coals like in post #47 and still couldn't get the temp past about 50C.

Minion method? No problems but obviously a higher coal usage and needs more careful monitoring. I must be doing something wrong. Still as it was just a test I put some bacon on the top rack and OM NOM NOM! :D

Also the top vent on my Pro Q is super stiff and I just sliced my finger open on it! Any ideas how to loosen it?

You should be able to undo it a bit with a screw driver I think. Or is it a nut/bolt setup?

Have you moved away from using water btw? Sorry if you've already said - may have missed it.

Oh yeah forgot about that! I used a couple of bricks in the bowl today (covered with foil) but I'm going to grab some sand later this week hopefully.

The top vent appears to look like a rivet on the outside although checking that was fairly low on my priority list in all fairness! :p

Sounds good. The bricks sound like they'll do the job fine but I guess sand kind of feels a bit neater :)

To be honest I could be completely wrong about the top vent. It's been about two years since I looked at a ProQ Frontier/Excel

So tempted to suspend GSVBagpuss until he posts some pics :p

Was busy eating!
