Well folks its almost time, one week to go to the first Grand Prix of 2023!! Finally we'll get to see the true performance of the 2023 challengers

Will Red Bull run away with the race again? Are Mercedes closer than 2022? Are Aston Martin really the 4th quickest team? We'll know soon!

Sakhir Circuit:

When was the track built?

Ground was broken for the Bahrain International Circuit in December 2002. Like the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, the developers had a blank, sandy canvas to work with, and with that fashioned the technical, 5.4km track designed by Hermann Tilke.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It was 2004 when the drivers first lined up under an unusually cloudy sky for the inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix. The race was dominated (like many in 2004) by the two Ferraris, with Michael Schumacher winning out from Rubens Barrichello, while the crowds were also treated to [a fantastic dog-fight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8mRAjFGr4Q) between the Jaguar of Mark Webber and the Renault of Fernando Alonso.

What’s the circuit like?

You can usually expect great racing and decent amounts of overtaking in Bahrain, while the drivers have to contend with wind, racing under floodlights and the difficulty of finding a decent set-up with the wide temperature fluctuations between sessions. The track’s most challenging point is the tight, downhill, off-camber Turn 10 left-hander, while the fast run through Turn 12 is another highlight, allowing the racers to really feel their cars coming alive.

Why go?

Given the nature of the track, race-goers in Bahrain have always got a decent chance of being treated to a ['duel in the desert'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTH87phrwEs) or three. Away from the race track, Bahrain, as you might expect, is a great place to catch some rays, with the 33-island archipelago kingdom featuring some jaw-dropping resorts. And if you want to do some racing yourself, the Bahrain International Karting Circuit, located right next to the track, is one of the world’s top karting facilities.

Biggest news ahead of next weekend appears to be that Lance Stroll is looking likely to miss out, Aston have been quite "secretive" almost about the extent of his injuries but its been suggested he broke both wrists.
I'd assume Drugovitch would stand in but there's been suggestions that Sebastian Vettel could be in the car next weekend, something Aston have done little to play down so far.

I can't see them calling up Vettel last minute, driver fitness is just as important. They've got two drivers on their books who are match fit ready, should get Drugovich prepped and ready so he has the mindset ready to go.

Is that F1 entry list accurate? Orlen has gone to AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo is now team Stake.

I'd agree but its being suggested that Stroll's injuries are worse than being let on, seems to be a suggestion that they may stick Drugovitch in the car next weekend and let Vettel get some sim time ahead of Saudi Arabia in 3 weeks time (which suggests Stroll is out for a longer period).
There's no smoke without fire in F1!

Its from the FIA website - to be honest I didn't even look at the team names, it was more for the driver listing given that there aren't any Championship Standings yet, if I can find an updated one I'll change it

Stroll has travelled to Bahrain for FIA medical checks, an announcement on whether he will drive is expected this afternoon but it seems more likely than not now.

Nothing against Lance, but I'd have liked to see Drugovich get his chance at a debut.

Wondering if Aston will live up to the hype. Because if they do its a huge benefit to RBR. More that squabble. For the 2nd to 3rd WCC points the better.

Still wondering where alpine will settle. Can't see them competing with Aston unless they've been seriously sandbagging and Aston can't keep up the expectations.
