That’s all well and good but we’re talking about the sprint where there is little strategy, and nobody “out of position”. It’s also not as if they were racing for 25 points. I’d say it’s the perfect opportunity for Lando to go wheel to wheel with Max, in fact the whole idea of sprints were to take out the strategy, tyre management etc. of the full race and force drivers to actually go wheel to wheel.
Did you think the same in 21 when no one fought Lewis coming through? There was nothing for them to gain fighting the Merc, especially with brand new engine and Lewis driving it, being the fastest car on the grid.

Anyway race start soon :)

I do wonder if it would be better to have reserve/test drivers do the sprint.

You could even have it contribute to wcc for the teams. That way it would've spoil Sunday. I prefer sprint to practice
Then we'd be back to the era of 3rd cars though.

Could you imagine how annoyed a driver would be if a reserve / test driver smashed their car up before a main race, especially if that then meant engine penalties etc.

Driving a car in free practise is much less riskier than an actual shootout / sprint race.
