I just think driving purposefully slower at the front is a dangerous game. (Besides managing your tyres I guess)

Not sure I’m seeing the bigger picture.

It's a difficult track to pass but not to close down (see current train behind Perez), so you can defend your position relatively easily. Most tracks if you tried this, you'd get passed within a couple of laps.

Cars behind get hot, overwork tyres, have very limited pit options. You're in control in more ways than are usually open to the strategists.

If this was achievable elsewhere you'd see it happen more.
