In the alternate dimension, and playing hypotheticals. I guess Mercedes should just sacrifice Russell every race from now on, just in case it benefits his team mate.
So you wouldn’t be frustrated to be faster than your teammate in that situation whilst being impossible to pass for him to throw away that chance?

Hamilton was nearly 0.5s faster than Russell towards the end, nobody's suggesting he should be let past at any opportunity, just explaining why he might feel frustrated - he knew the car was fast enough for a win

Not an F1 driver. I wouldn't know...
It is what it is. You're all talking like it was a dead cert that he'd definitely have made the pass, but it's impossible to say 100%.
I don't think it's time for Russell to be getting the "Valtteri, it's James..." treatment.

Lando would have won that race if they had pit him.

Lewis over the past few years does appear to be really struggling physically (The vegan life choice is not helping matters)

Hamilton also gained 4s on Russell as well before they got to Leclerc. In theory, he could have been on the rear of Lando a couple of laps earlier than Russell was.

Lol what’s with the totally over the top judging on Russell from everyone. He was on for P2 or 3 and made one big mistake on a narrow street circuit. People have done worse.

I agree saying worse than Perez is well over the top, but its also true that Russell has done very little as of yet to prove that he's ever going to be a top, top F1 driver.
I can't see him being any better than a Button or Hill at this point.

But did McLaren have any tyres to give him?

Mercedes went out of their way to have an extra set of brand new tyres. I wouldn't assume Norris could have done the same throwing on a set of used qualifying tyres.
