I've said this before about Russell - he really pushes things beyond his talent level sometimes. I think he's really desperate to prove himself against Lewis and he has to take it massively to the edge of his ability to do so.

Unfortunately, Merc could likely have got a 2nd or even 1st if Lewis was ahead of Russell after the pitstops. He was noticeably faster on the new mediums at the end there. But in fairness that is on Lewis for not qualifying better.

Impressive weekend from Sainz and Norris.

Very obviously the race of the season so far. Top drive from Carlos. George just sat behind moaning the whole race how slow the pace was, without ever actually proving he could go faster. Finally he got the mediums and still messed it up. He's become rash, unreliable and desperate.
Very mature drive from Lewis I feel.
Redbull will be back hard at Suzuka where aero will allow them to fly again.

At an outside guess, Hamiltons car was set up for race pace and tyre deg rather than headline quali speeds.

Based on the quali results alone, Russell should have been 0.5sec/lap quicker but it was the opposite when they got racing (and arguably Hamilton was the fastest car on track all race).

“if you ignore P1”, except that was up for grabs most of the race rather than a RB steaming off in to the distance. So not exactly the same
Who cares though? Everyone is going to want their driver to win, but they’ll **** off RB saying that they want to see racing, yet we have tyre management all race and people are all excited

This race definitely proved that removing RB doesn’t change much. It was exactly the same as watching the usual battles if you ignore P1.

But in this race, P1 was genuinely in jeaporady due to Mercs strategy decision.

It was the first race in recent memory where Max winning wasn't a foregone conclusion (save for technical difficulties)

Do we think Leclercs star is fading a little ? Feels like Sainz has the better of him at this moment in time and in terms of strategy it doesn't feel like Ferrari treats him as the driver who is meant to be the future of the team.
I’ve always thought Leclerc is the golden boy, the most loved by the team despite Sainz comprehensively outperforming him for most of this season.

The funny thing is I remember watching Norris streaming ages ago and I believe he was talking to Albon. They said how great George was and how they knew they were going to struggle to win if he was racing.

This was karting though and he wasn’t teamed with a seven time champion/ has a point to prove… :o :D

I think he is very good and has world championship potential.

I get the feeling that he's getting frustrated watching this season get away from him (IE he's very likely to finish well below Lewis now).
