Yas Marina Circuit

When was the track built?

Plans to develop Yas Island as a tourist destination were announced in 2006. Construction of the Yas Marina Circuit began in May 2007 and was completed by October 2009.

When was its first Grand Prix?
The Yas Marina Circuit hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2009, serving as the season finale. Sebastian Vettel won the race, with teammate Mark Webber second and Jenson Button, the 2009 champion, finishing third.

What’s the circuit like?
Designed by Hermann Tilke, the track features a 1.2km straight between Turns 5 and 6, ideal for overtaking. Notable sections include the challenging Turns 10 to 12, which require hard braking under lateral load. Modifications in 2021 reduced the lap length to 5.28km, enhancing the racing excitement.

Why go?
Yas Island has transformed into a world-class tourist destination, with over $40 billion invested. Attractions include seven luxury hotels, Ferrari World, a shopping mall, a water park, a golf course, a beach, a concert arena, and a nightclub, all complemented by ideal Emirati weather.

Where is the best place to watch?

West Grandstand: Ideal for viewing overtaking at Turn 6.

Main Grandstand: Offers a view of the start-finish straight and Abu Dhabi’s signature pyrotechnics.
For shade, choose a high seat in your preferred grandstand. Alternatively, enjoy a trackside view from the Yas Hotel or a marina berth.

F1 Drivers & Constructors Standings after the Qatar GP (Round 23/24)

Standings.png

Just a reminder, but consider it a warning - can we not have any further derogatory name calling of drivers, team bosses and the like. We don't expect you to like every driver/team, but at least keep comments respectful.

If you don't follow this warning, you will lose access to the race thread and the thread for the following race as well.

This includes but is not limited to such terms including Lulu, Crashstappen, Karen Horner, Whingey Spice etc.

Thank you for this!

I am attending this race, in Saudi currently and flying out to Dubai tonight!
I cannot wait, seated at Grandstand at the end of the second straight where the old chicane was, now long hairpin!

Hoping for Ferrari to steal the constructors!

I hope they bring back Masi as race director, I mean after all...
Deduct Max 200 points and gift Hamilton them? Sounds fair ;)

I’m torn on the WCC. I’d like to see McLaren win it because I think they deserve it more than Ferrari this year. But if Ferrari win it, it bodes well for next year. Dunno..

I assume the Sky team will spend the entire weekend talking about the 2021 race trying to stoke up some rage again.
 I’m pretty sure no one actually wants to talk about that. But AD is forever tainted they should just wipe it from the calendar tbh. It’s just another pointless desert track like last week.

I’m hoping Lewis has a good last run for Mercedes, and maybe there will be some excitement for the WCC although it’d be hard to track and do the maths live if it is an interesting race!

Ferrari winning WCC and Charles hitting 2nd in WDC will be hilarious.
Just looked up the standings and Leclerc is 8 points behind Norris, imagine if Charles wins ahead of Max and Lando... Stranger things have happened at sea!

Without looking it up, I'm presuming Norris would be ahead of Leclerc on countback, if equal points.

It's a big ask for Ferrari to beat McLaren to 2nd unless one of the McLarens has a disaster/DNF. Even if they get 1st and 2nd, McLaren can come 3rd + 4th, 5th or 6th (assuming Ferrari don't get the fastest laps).

I think Lando is just ahead if it comes to a draw, but might change if Charles wins.

McLaren have definitely dropped a bit since their rear wing was banned so they could struggle on this track.

Wow I didn't even know that was a possibility  Just goes to show how much consistency matters across the season.

if you'd prefer Ferrari to do well next year then it's probably better they don't win this year, so that they get the extra CFD development time allowance. It's not like they need the WCC earnings.

True. I think McLaren do deserve it more as a constructor and the way they turned it around was mighty impressive.
