What are the main F1 media saying about the Academy thing? I get that it’s super unlikely she won’t still be champion - but it sets even more of a precedent for fiddling results. There’s one thing a rogue race director changing the rules because he didn’t want to finish the last race under a SC, but adding another race once the WDC has been decided is absolutely bonkers. What’s the official reason? Have they even said? Is MBS just gonna change stuff every year so that Abu Dhabi gets some excitement.?

They're not adding an extra race, they've rescheduled the cancelled one from Qatar (it was cancelled due to barrier damage resulting from a crash in a support race), but the thing is that F1 Academy awards points for getting pole in quali. Pin keeps the points for getting pole in Qatar, but there's now another 2 pts available for qualifying for the replacement race. It's that extra two points, rather than the extra race that has caused Pulling to unwin the Championship.

Really quite an odd situation, and hard to say whether it is right or wrong. It seems unjust to retroactively strip Pin of the points from Qatar; but equally unjust to add an extra two points to those that can be earned. I would have thought the best options would be either to use the order from the Qatar quali in the Abu Dhabi race or just use the Quali to determine order and not award the two points but I guess both break the rules in their own way. It won't make any difference in the end, but still a very strange occurrence.

Glad it's the last race , this season has been very long. Hope Lewis goes out on a high, he deserves it.

Yeah, not a great fan of the ever increased number of races on the calendar. But after a continuation of the dull dominance from last season in the first half dozen races, it's been a pretty good season. It's been hard to predict who will win the next race, and there's been a lot of races with decent action through the field. I'm hopefully we'll get a cracking battle next season between multiple drivers and teams.

I think the FIA need to understand what the word “cancelled” means tbh. Assuming they’ve used that word :)

Cancelled /= postponed!

But I’m not up on the Academy stuff enough to get in a tizz over it. Does it affect other standings though too? Surely. It’s the precedent that’s concerning. Cancel Spa F1 because of rain (again), then decide to run it nearer the end of the season because you can? Yeah ok? :o

Baffled really why they haven't just done this, seems a simple and obvious solution that remains reasonably fair all round and doesn't make anything complicated in terms of extra points available etc.

I'm not familiar with the sporting rules for F1A - but I'd guess that they specify how quali is to be run, including that the results apply to a race at the same circuit.

Probably but i'm sure the rules also don't specify much about adding extra events into different rounds etc. so they're probably already playing fast and loose with whatever the regulations strictly say

As we have sprint races in F1, Wouldn't it be better that the last race of the season is a sprint race so more points would be on offer?

I never watch any of the practice sessions and this last race doesn't really make me want to watch it,
The only thing interesting that could happen (which is unlikely) is that Ferrari overtake McLaren on points to win the constructors
