Hungaroring Circuit - Information

The Hungaroring, built in 1985, was ready for racing in just nine months. Initially, the Hungarian government considered reviving the old Nepliget park circuit in Budapest for Formula 1, but ultimately decided to create a purpose-built facility.

The first Grand Prix at the Hungaroring took place in 1986, with Nelson Piquet winning the race after a memorable overtake on Ayrton Senna.

The circuit is often compared to a karting track due to its lack of straights and series of corners. Teams use high levels of downforce similar to Monaco, and a well-sorted chassis is crucial for success. Drivers enjoy the challenge of finding a good rhythm to set fast lap times.

Visiting the Hungaroring in July means hot weather, but there's a nearby water park, the Mogyorodi Aquarena, to cool off. The circuit is also just 20km from Budapest, offering access to one of Europe's most vibrant city centers.

For the best viewing experience, the grandstands on or around the main straight provide views of multiple parts of the track, thanks to the natural bowl-like setting, similar to the UK's Brands Hatch.

Just a reminder, but consider it a warning - can we not have any further derogatory name calling of drivers, team bosses and the like. We don't expect you to like every driver/team, but at least keep comments respectful.

If you don't follow this warning, you will lose access to the race thread and the thread for the following race as well.

This includes but is not limited to such terms including Lulu, Crashstappen, Karen Horner, Whingey Spice etc.

Weren’t they saying it’s rare for a pole quali here to convert to a win? Or hasn’t happened in X years. It’s a long run at the start anyway. Max is probably rubbing his hands with glee at a dive bomb special into turn one.

I liked this reaction from Piastri whilst queuing for the last quali lap :D https://www.facebook.com/share/r/Mygk5KERVDUGMZgs/?mibextid=WC7FNe

Only 4 polesitters have won in the last decade (All Hamilton!) - but yes I know what you mean, I half expect Max to be in the lead early.
