History
- Built: The circuit was constructed in 1959 within the Magdalena Mixhuca public park
- Naming: It was named after the famous Mexican racing brothers, Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez, both of whom tragically lost their lives in racing incidents
Track Characteristics
- Length: The current Grand Prix circuit is 4.304 km (2.674 miles) long
- Layout: The track is known for its high altitude (2,238 meters or 7,342 feet above sea level), which affects both drivers and cars due to the thin air
- It features a mix of fast straights and technical corners, including the iconic Peraltada curve, which is partially bypassed in the modern layout
- Surface: The track surface is asphalt, and it has undergone several modifications over the years to improve safety and accommodate different racing series
Grand Prix History
- First Grand Prix: The circuit hosted its first Formula One Grand Prix in 1962 as a non-Championship race, The following year, it became a full World Championship event
- F1 Calendar: It was part of the F1 calendar from 1963 to 1970, and then again from 1986 to 1992. After a long hiatus, the Mexican Grand Prix returned in 2015 and has been a regular fixture since
- Notable Events: Besides Formula One, the circuit has hosted various other racing events, including the FIA Formula E Championship, NASCAR Mexico Series, and the World Endurance Championship
