I fear Max will be back near the top step this weekend. We know he was running an old engine which was down in power so that would fully explain being behind McLaren and Ferrari. With a new engine he’ll likely be back fighting the top 2-3 drivers and with (as above) DRS aplenty it’s going to be a walk in the park for him even if he does start from towards the back. I’m a total pessimist but I wouldn’t be surprised if he won the sprint or race, or both
Best case scenario for the WDC is if Piastri has been taking tips from Bottas on how to help his teammate in the first corner (not corner specific - I can’t remember what circuit that was..) and Max DNFs and Norris wins. If there’s only 5 or so points between what they take here then it’s pretty much over.
Be nice to see Max win here.
Engine penalty looks likely.

Especially if it's wet but you never know, anyone who wins under those conditions fully deserves it.
Weather seems to have taken an interesting turn currently, so expect a Grand Prix du Red Flag.

Been some classic wet races here over the years.
F1 don't race in the wet these days though, no idea why they bothered having full wets anymore.

Looking at the weather forecast, it seems to me, to be standard thunderstorm risk in the afternoon which is a typical guess from the forecasters.
F1 have uploaded extended highlights of the 2003 race to their YouTube channel.

Always a circuit I look forward, a pity we don't get somewhere like this to close the season out instead of a tedious Sportswashing track. Ah well.
Weather could spice things up, but I won't hold my breath until we actually see it. Different weather in Sprint and Race would be nice, would make the Sprint less of a spoiler for the race proper. I still don't think that Norris is in with any realistic chance of a WDC but it'd be nice to get to the last race with things still theoretically open.

Max was supreme in the wet.
Pretty much the same in Indycar now. Although he does seem to have a lot of bad luck as well.
Watched the 2003 highlights last night, forgot how eventful that race was!

Alonso has received treatment for an intestinal infection. He's expected to make the race, but I don't think it's been confirmed yet? Presumably Drugovich would get the call up if he can't, which would make him the first Brazilian at the Brazilian GP since Massa, I think?

K-Mag has also been taken ill, Oli Bearman is taking over driving duties today.
I'll imagine he will race the sprint tomorrow given the qually rule. Then if K-Mag is better he will do the full race qually/race on Sunday.

Bearman to replace unwell Magnussen for Friday in Brazil
2025 Haas driver Ollie Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen at the team for Friday's running at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend, after Magnussen reported feeling unwell.

Engine penalty for Max has just been confirmed, 5 place drop for the race on Sunday.

Perez has asked for a new Chassis too, which Red Bull have agreed to swap. Probably in an effort to be a bit less Perez and try and make it out of Q1.
