************ Official 39XX Overclocking Thread ************

Well, have ordered a cheap power meter thing and a couple of power conditioner extension things... I live in a really old flat with dodgy everything, so will be interesting to try.

yeah the house i'm in is a 100 year old farm house, although it had some restoration work about a decade ago i have no idea if all the electrics were redone then or not. nothing to lose by trying it. the power meter is just handy anyway.

i'm still struggling to get 4.8ghz at anything lower than 1.44 volts, which is ok so far as my temps are max 79-80 per core, but i'm hoping to get it down a bit still, 4.6ghz i can do around 1.34-1.36v depending on how much llc i use, which will be fine for a 24/7 setup. would be nice to get it a bit lower but i think my chip is pretty average as i've seen a lot better, but also a few worse. I'm still on the original stepping, i didnt fancy returning my cpu under the vt-d thing incase i got a worse one lol.

water loop, xspc rasa block and 360 rad, only the cpu is in the loop, motherboard is controlling the fans, and i've set it up so the fans will only throttle up from 600rpm once the temps get up over 70 degrees.

Hardly :)

If I can't get temps where I want em with the phanteks at 4.7, then I will simply drop my expectations.

Said it before and will say it again - I can not be trusted with water near my computer :D

I went phase change once, but the noise/hum really REALLY got to me lol, i don't know why! Was very fun though (Athlon 64 days).

I am tempted to go water now, been looking around the past couple of days. So long as it's a sturdy, low maintenance loop, i'm cool with it.

I was using the bundled frio advanced that came with my msi mobo, but the fans were horrendously noisy, just comically loud when oc'd to 4.6ghz, swapped them for akasa vipers which made a huge difference but went for the water loop because my pc sits in one of the two main rooms in my house that have other people in them most of the time so wanted something quiet, the machines on nearly all the time often doing 3d renders, so being able to have it running 100% with the fans at minimum is a big bonus. It isnt silent because of the number of fans and the pump but its really very quiet and stays that way regardless of load.

I dont think i'd have been able to push this chip as far as i have without the water, also i feel more confident when pushing it having the extra cooling headroom. Its my first loop and it took an epic test of patience not to fry everything including me when putting it together, planning and patience required lol.

The former I suck at, the latter I have none of :D

lol yeah my planned leak test, where i left it running with everything in the case except the power supply which was only powering the pump, went from overnight, down to 2 hours, in the end after 30 minutes and no leaks i couldnt wait any longer lol. I'm still fighting the temptation to drink the blue milk.. i mean the mayhems pastel blue, i blame growing up with star wars for that :D

Here you go eyetrip, another for OP.

CPU-Z Validation

I got mine (C2) running at 4.7 (multiplier x47) with 1.375v on the core, mem at 1866mhz (1.5v) and LLC on high, all other settings on auto and havent tried any higher, temps get to ~75oC under IBT, but that was in jan/feb, havent done much (IBT) since, in games it barely goes over 50 and multithreads 60-65

Did you find out the revision/stepping of your chip? Whether it was a C2 or not? And i assume you got it from Overclockers yes? Just want to see if you got the same as me.

Mine is a C2 Batch# 3148C636

EDIT: Just checked your CPU-Z Validation, it's a C2. But did you get it from Overclockers? If so it'll be the same batch.

Reseated last night (AGAIN!!!)

Mine is 3152B502 from Costa Rica (favourite place in the world)
