Fairly sure those are locked :(

The only cards I could guarantee have voltage control is either anything by msi or the matrix plat.
 
ASUS Matrix Plats are EOL this is correct.

I will be using one in an OC display for ASUS and a GTX680 too, with a special version of GPU tweak.

MSI Lightening is another great card option and my GTX680 single card record and four card 7970 3D 11 Second place world score was with these cards.
 
Was it just a limited run of the matrix plats then? If so it's a strange one as it's the only card that comes close to the lightning.

Yep, haven't been able to get one for ages in the US and has been delisted. OCUK just got rid of their last one recently.

Also from a competitor:

Tbh i think i'll stick will my original idea and get the best 7970 i can afford.
The intention was always to upgrade to intel with next months pay anyway, plus, I've never really owned "the best" card in a series, Be it it from the green or red team, so having the option to do so is nice.
Really getting into benchmarking too!
Finding it all very addictive :)
hopefully with a swap to intel and a brand new 7970 in my rig, i'll get myself into the top thirty at least.
Now to decide what 7970 to get.....

I understand that and the reason I have my system is from promising myself a decent gaming machine when my 2 girls started working and no longer required my money.

I don't regret a penny of it :)

Great reviews on that MOBO and the 3570K is a great chip. Makes sense but I sould still go the other way round (GPU first). It would be a massive boost when you swap out the mobo and CPU and you can see the real potential of a decent CPU. Personal choice on that though and sounds like a plan. Maybe next payday you may have seen something you like and it is cheaper. I can't see the mobo or CPU dropping much.

Send me the car for my top advice btw ;)
 
^^lol, will do pal, still not decided quite yet, did see a big difference in gaming while the 7970 was in my system so i may just go (GPU) first like you say and grab the bundle next month, regards i'll decided tomorrow after my refund.
I "could"...con the missus into adding more funds for a lightning....
She works from home a lot......complains about our low broadband speed....... ... lightning.....speed..... ... lightning speed.. yep that'll do :D
 
@Gregster when your benching what speed do you set your vram to

The reason I ask is that I think I have worked out why I never get very high max fps.

If I use one 690 on the heaven bench I hit about 360fps max if I use two 690s I get 375fps max not much of an improvement. If I try a bigger oc not much changes. What I tried different today was to push the vram for all its worth (7300mhz) and got a small but significant improvement (about another 20fps on max).

I think what has been happening is 256bit memory bus has been holding me back at LOW resolutions, it just can not transfer the imformation fast enough for the number of frames involved. At higher resolutions this is not a problem (a lot less fps to deal with).

I also get this problem running 3dmark Vantage, there is not much difference in my score between the normal and extreme preset.

If I am right about the 256 bit memory bus and high fps/poor performance, when the Titan launches with its 384 bit memory bus this should bring impessive increases in fps when using them in sli.
 
Guys I need your help.

Someone on here said Windows 8 benches better than 7 on some benches. But they said something about making it look like Windows 7 First. I am a complete novice on Windows 8. Just installed. How do I do this????

What you need is Start8 8Pack. http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ Funny that you both have 8's in your name, er anyway...

You can use the 30 day trial, after that you will need to pay £2.50 if you want to use it permanently.
