But distilled water was ~£2.50 for 5 litres. I've chopped and changed the rig over the last couple of months what with this being my first foray into water cooling.

Now I'm fairly certain I'm sticking I'll probably stick a litre of Mayhems pure H2O and another kill coil.

Are the coils lifed?

Ive never bothered with killcoils. I've heared they can leave a residue build up which kind of defeats the object lol. Most likely user error and not enough of them in the loop.

Is it wise to use them with premixed fluids?

I have never used them either. I didn't read up and ordered one with some distilled water on my last build but thought I should do some checking and turns out I would need 4 of them.

I couldn't be bothered to wait longer for deliveries, so I used the ~1.5L of Red and topped it up with Blueberry.

I'm not going to bother as will need a few. I think the premixed fluids are good enough TBH, as long as you change every 12 months. As I say I've had my res got to be going on almost 3 years, not cleaned that part in that time and it's only started to get a slight build up on the sides with only 1 or 2 flushes in-between. Think some people just get a bit...anal :D

Update from me - Picked up nearly 1000 points from some light overclocking. :D

R9 290
1100mhz core
1300mhz memory
4670K @ 4.0ghz

9264. GFX Score 11517. 290. Air cooled. Physics Score 7386. CPU 4670K @ 4.0 Air cooled - Defconluke - Link

Replaced my i5 760 with a new i7 4770K and MSI Z87M Gaming.

First mild attempt at overclocking.

i7 4770K : 4.2Ghz
R9 290X: 1,110-1,350

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1459809

Score: 10,344

Graphics: 12,196
Physics: 10,722
Combined 4,720

Currently using the oc genie overclock button on the motherboard which automatically overclocks, will have a proper play at the weekend.

Not much gained in the graphics score from my i5 760, shows what a capable processor that is 3+ years after release, or that even an R9 290X is a bottleneck in this benchmark at these settings.

You're a few cores short chap :)

Cracking graphics score though, what clocks?

Says core at 1,185 MHz? If so that is a really impressive graphics score for the clock, can't remember how 3Dmark reads boost though.

Guessing you're on a boost BIOS so circa 1,285?. Good stuff

Ahh! I see thx Frosty "I was like what the hell am I doing wrong" ;)

Gpuz sensors was reading max boost 1320/1845 thats 170mhz on the core stable - Ln2 bios no extra volts.

just done another run on Fire Strike Extreme & beat my score of 6122 damn I just posted that score too.
