** Official 680 review thread **

Weird how 3 7970s are faster than 4 680s :/

Quad SLI has never been all that.

Nvidia make dual PCB cards to show off it. They don't make them for people with too much money to use two of and then offer full support on.

I know this only too well, as I have used it (quad SLI).

And in most cases it was slower than using one card.

Not only that, but if the game engine doesn't support it then it will hinder matters. There was an article in a gaming magazine that I read recently about one of EA's new games, and the head CEO for the game itself made a statement to say that whilst he would love to create a multiple GPU version he couldn't see it selling very many units. Thus, he only put in dual GPU support to the game itself.

The game needs to support it, and a good 90% don't. Fallout 3 only sees two, adding any more makes no difference and so on. Adding in that kind of support costs money and takes time. And time is money, so they simply don't bother.

Very very happy as far as I am concerned.

Just put BF3 to 1920x1200 Ultra everything 4x MSAA 16x AF HBAO the lot with adaptive VSYNC on. Solid unwavering 60FPS out of the box.

So very very smooth. Impressed.

Whats the rest of your specs? Did you put adaptive vsync on in Precision X?

Do you think I'll be able to play at those settings but 1080P with my GTX680 and rig? (specs in signature). By Driver level do you mean through nVidia control panel?

I can only see FXAA at driver level and nothing about TXAA.

I thought TXAA was only supported by some titles?

Unfortunately TXAA needs to be implemented in upcoming game titles, and this the functionality will be available later this year. TXAA will also get supported in GeForce series 400 and 500 products.

Thats cool, thanks Sin.

Edit:

Just played a 32 man server on BF3 and with everything full on ultra (that means all on ultra) @ 1080P, it never dropped below 60fps. sitting aound the 70 mark for most. I didn't realise how good this game looks with everything on.

Yeah, on my old playable (read 40FPS) settings for my 285GTX the 680 idled along at 50% usage :D

Fully ramped up with HBAO looks damn sick.

Shes in:

Best thing about the card is noise/temperature level. Under load fan speed goes to around 52% and temps only 55C :) Very impressed. Yes the Heaven score is lower than my CF 5850s at 815/1100 but then again those were 2 GPUs.
