***Official*** 9800GX2 thread (reviews and benches inside)

Forno's results have impressed me. GTX might be going up on the bay shortly and I reckon I'll get myself one of these. I need something new to play with. Also with a 4ghz CPU I should get the most out of one.

Let's see.

Managed to get a crysis benchmark of 58fps with no overclock on the card. But as I was typing in the result the screen just went. Im pretty gutted. I think I just got unlucky with an early life failure. It lasted about 15minutes. :(

Back to my GTX and will see what to do tomorrow about my new broken toy.

anyone fitting this in an antec ninehundred? was thinking about buying a new case and that looks nice... thanks

If its the same length as an 8800GTX (forgive me if this has been covered earlier in the thread but I haven't read it all) then should be ok

Has anyone experienced VLC or MP corruption issues when playing back video..you get green lines going across the window where you are playing the video back, followed usually by your system freezing and having to do a reboot. Totally intermittent. Sometimes happens after a minute or so. Sometimes can take an hour.

It's not an OS issue (happens in XP and Vista), and not an overheating issue as games will play all day long. It also happens in quad sli, sli and with single gpu's. CPU or Memory seems unlikely too. There have been various reports of it possibly being an issue with the 174.xx series driver on 7 series Nvidia mobo's but nothing official has been said about it by nvidia.

It's been reported here on evga forums in 2 threads

It's annoying for me as I can game, but can't watch divx's realiably. I'm half thinking of ditching my 7 series mobo and getting myself an X38 or Rampage. Just wondering if anyone on these forums has experienced this issue. I bet it's not the gpu and doesn't happen with Intel chipset boards.

It seems to be an nforce 7 series problem.

I'm suffering from it too, have currently got my xps m1730 rigged up as my main rig instead of the one in my sig as it's seriously irritating.

Funny though, two 8800m gtx's in sli work fine but two 8800gtx in sli don't.

Either way, this problem is spreading round forums very quick akin to the creative drivers uproar as it's just plain unacceptable.

Well, thanks for the input mate. I'm glad I'm not the only one on these forums with this issue. I was concerned my GX2 might be knackered. However I really don't want to ditch my mainboard for an X48 as I invested in the 790i after it getting such rave reviews. And want the option of sli open to me.

I'm running Vista 64 and have installed the official 9.64 drivers. In fact yesterday I did a clean install with just 9.64 chipset drivers, 174.74 video, and VLC and was able to reproduce the issue.

If it's a motherboard driver issue then, I might try another clean install and use the newer drivers off Guru3d along with the new 175 series gpu drivers. What do you think ?

After reading through this whole thread im not convinced about this card. Especially at high res with aa on. Think im going to stick to 2 ultras :p
