***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I'm going to get the lad to get a better cooler for it, he's coming from an Athlon II X4 OEM (Some low power 2.3GHZ Athlon II X4) so it's massively better anyways.

I'll get more time to overclock it sometime after Christmas.

Could be a duff mount, I'll have a proper crack at it when he's got a new cooler, it's a pretty crap one to be honest, just quiet unlike the stock one (But then if it was a duff application, heat transfer would be poor, and the heatsink wouldn't be getting hot)

And his PSU's only a CX 430W, so there's that :p

I don't know what you consider warm, but it was uncomfortable.

This is under load btw, when I was looping Heaven.

What core temp did it show?

I didn't check.
It's not connected to the internet, I just threw 8.1 on it and drivers via disc and it's been picked up.
But an hour of Heaven and no crashes, so it's fine.

Like I say, he's coming from a 2.3GHZ Athlon II X4, so at stock it's going to be wayyy faster, and I didn't want to push his PSU too much yet.

I didn't even overclock the i5 4670K and R9 290 system :p

I don't have the time at time right now.

For my own 4770K? I only managed to find time overclocking it as I was building the systems, so I left it stressing. The silicon is crap, 4.5GHZ is my 24/7 on my 4770K.

My 4770K will do 4.5GHz max stable no matter the voltage, but it's the best of four I've used. It's still going to make a big difference over a slightly faster clocked 4670K in multi-threaded games more and more.

Have ordered a new bios chip for my CHVFZ flashed to 1701, hopefully replacing that will cure my rig, then I can return the new CHVFZ that arrived today and recoup some monies.

Miss tinkering with my rig :(

Guys

Can I ask for your advice, so after waiting many many months for Steamroller I got bored of waiting and bought a FX8320, with a ASUS M5A99FX Pro MB and this cooler.....

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-037-AL&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2337

I increased the multiplier to get the chip to 4.0ghz, I did not change anything else.........vcore is 1.375v.

Anyway things seemed to be going well, initial temperatures seemed to be around 53c while running World Community Grid on all cores at 100%.

But then I replaced the case side panel and temps just shot up......reaching 58c.

BTW I have an Antec Sonata III case.

I have added a fan at the front of the case and this made a slight improvement, also when I touch the heat pipes at the bottom of the cooler they do not seem to be too hot......is this right. I also reseated the cooler and the Thermal Paste contact area looked fine......

Did I buy the wrong cooler? Any advice?
