***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I honestly don't know what it is mate and I'm at my wits end. Before the last "patch" a couple of week's ago it was running seamlessly (other than the inherent hit reg and "netcode" woes that everyone bangs on about) and then BAM - got completely done over. Trying not to be the whinging type I looked at my own gear first, hence the wipe and upgrade of the OS and while it's improved it's still nowhere near where it was :(

I also reset everything back to it's absolute default (stock clock, memory timings, gpu clock and memory speed etc) when I did my clean install and still no avail. Tried both the beta and the 13.12 stable drivers. My BIOS and chipsets are all up to date and I even replugged everything back in just to be absolutely sure so I am done! haha

I know your plight it was almost perfect and then the last patch just put all the lag and crashes back into the game.

When I had to RMA the PSU I still played the game at stock (FX8320) which is 4Ghz on boost/turbo and it ran fine too.

My clean install (as I got a new 8.1 license, was using the evaluation version before) was straight to 14.2, looks like it needs deeper investigation.

That seems really odd nightfly. Im not getting any spikes at all (using mantle) but the one thing I seem to keep getting is the odd white screen crash, but at least on those I dont have to restart my pc any more. Have you got a trace of cpu and gpu usage available? Will be interesting to see if the usage of either is dropping at a point around one of your drops

When I'm in game I use the perfoverlay graph in the bottom left to monitor it. I'll try and get some screen grabs when I'm on next. As soon as it happens I've been checking my usage in Windows (using GPU Tweak and task manager) and according to those there isn't a single, slightest dip in performance. No other game has given me as much gip as BF4 has and I find myself having to take regular breaks from it waiting for the next patch.

I'm not running mantle at the minute as that really messed me up when I first attempted it so waiting until it is officially released and optimised for the 7970 as they promised all cards would be. (still miffed at that one in all honesty)

Seems odd that all usage is at 100% while still getting fps drops. It works well on my flatmates pc running 14.2 (remind me to badger him to update drivers later...:D) with my old 7970Ghz and thats running fine. Maybe its just one of those things :( When you reinstalled drivers you used driver sweeper etc?

Also seems odd that its just bf4. Stupid dice. Such a shame as its the perfect game for an 83xx!!

That's my problem, as I said, before the most recent patch it was working brilliantly and I felt there was some light at the end of the tunnel! Now it's gone back to being the thorn in my side haha

And yeah, when I re-install I've tried using the AMD clean up utility, AMD Catalyst Install manager, Driver Sweeper and then doing a CCleaner to make sure everything is clean and tidy. When installing I've gone for a full install, a customer install with just the drivers, I've left out HDMI Audio drivers as that's been said to cause problems so the list goes on. But ah well, other than that one game my system runs beautifully so I'll take that as a bonus haha

So here's a pretty run of the mill example of what I'm seeing

0i8uUkq.png

Notice that's not even playing that's just sat in the spawn screen. I've run the CPU core unparking program again although I thought this wasn't an issue that affected Win 8.1 :S I'm not even running mantle so this is supposedly the stable 13.12 driver which works fine everywhere else.

I use a mix of highs and mediums as I'm after performance not eye candy so I should be able to breeze through this game but all it does is make me cry and die a little inside every time I fire it up! haha

Oh and just to clarify I'm not running what CPU-z says in my sig, I'm back to 9-9-9-24 factory standard at around 1500mhz on the RAM and 4.77ghz on the CPU.

Maybe try clocking the ram a bit higher and see if that helps.

Apart from that, not sure what I can suggest, does seem like a very odd problem. Does the same thing happen with 14.3 etc?

Looking at the graphs though, it does seem like a cpu problem as the cpu spike happens before the gpu spike...

It happens even when I run at stock which would mean I'm running at 1600mhz and surely 100mhz couldn't have that much of an impact could it? (Genuine question as RAM is not something I've learnt much about on my little adventure up to yet)

Other than that, yeah this happens in exactly the same pattern across all drivers all since the last patch circa 2 weeks ago. It is odd, it just seems like my CPU is having a brain fart or a hiccup and it's definitely noticeable when it does. It happens at regular intervals but can also happen whenever it feels like too, mainly when I come into contact with another (enemy) player. I'm wondering if its trying to communicate with the server/PBstats or something and it's causing some sort of error.

Thats so infuriating. Have you tried putting anything on the battlelog forums? I doubt 100Mhz on the ram settings will make any difference whatsoever.

It does appear as though its something to do with the patch but odd that I haven't been suffering from it too. Anyone on google had similar problems?

They are out there but nothing seems fixed with any concrete evidence. Admittedly I am holding out that the DLC would come with a stealth patch as they usually do but as we've just found out it has been delayed indefinitely so think it's about time I take a well earned break from this so-called game which seems to eat away my spare time and a large portion of my sanity! haha

It's installed on an SSD separate to the OS which has programs and some select online games on there (Titanfall is the other currently) so I get the benefit of faster map loading. Titanfall will probably be getting moved to an HDD shortly though as there seems no real advantage of playing it through and SSD.

I've tried all settings to medium and low, let the game put it on optimum and still nothing really changes. Titanfall doesn't have any problems other than the slight bit of screen tearing which is an issue but everything else I've played, FarCry 3 and Bioshock Infinite as of late, have no problems whatsoever. Even running Heaven benchmark is silky smooth.

I feel like I'm just shooting all your suggestions down but that's really not my intention, it's just I've been round the houses with this so think I may need to just accept defeat! haha
