**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

I have a problem I posted earlier with the following spec (newly built) PC:

ASUS P5K-Deluxe
Conroe E6600
Crucial Ballistix 6400 2x1GB
BFG 8800GTX OC
Corsair 620HX PSU

After making ANY change from the stock settings in the BIOS, after exiting and saving, the PC switches off straight away, then powering up a few seconds later with a blank screen (fans are running, but no POST/beeps). Turning off the PC again and then turning it on, the PC turns on with the error message: "Overclocking Failed!" (nothing has been overclocked?!) and restores all options to default. Sometimes I cannot even get this and the PC boots up to a blank screen, no POST every time.

Removing ONE stick of RAM so only one is left alleviates this problem - basically I think it is to do with having a DDR set up but have no idea how to solve it. I think my BIOS is 0202 but I don't really want to be flashing it or trying to update it considering the relatively unstable state it is in (changing anything seems to stop the PC booting).

Any help?

Just received this board, quick question though, my Corsair 620W PSU has an 8 pin connector for the 12v, on the board 4 of the pins are covered by a black plastic thing.

Is it best to remove this cover and use the 8 pin or to use the 4 pin from the PSU?

Cheers.

Thanks, im using a P182 though, so im not sure the cables are long enough.

Would the 4 pin not work? (ive got a 4pin extender but not 8 pin)

Cheers.

8 pin is able to deliver more current than the 4 pin. However, if it works for you, great. :)

Hi, Im looking at building as futureproof computer as possible on a budget (contradictory, I know!). So far I have decided upon 2GB Geil DDR2 PC-6400 RAM, an E4300 (or 4500 if I can afford it), and a radeon X1950. Is the P5KC compatible with all of this?

From what I have heard, it is also compatible with Penryn and DDR3 RAM. Can someone verify this for me? Thanks a lot!

Anyone running 4gb in 4x1gb sticks on P5K, or does the memory controller freak out like a few other brands with 4 sticks? Only ask since mates pc of simular spec to mine, runs dam site better using Vista with 4gb.

Quad Core temps on P5K

Just got my hands on a P5K Deluxe WiFi, fairly impressed so far.. it's certainly more stable than a P5N32-E SLI! One major issue though, my QX6700 at idle is 51degrees on water! On the ASUS support forums other people are having high temps with QX CPU's but as yet no fix. Anyone else got this or a solution?

Running the latest beta bios, 4 x 1GB OCZ 1100 Platinum mem. I'm hoping it's a bios bug that's over reading the temps.. but when TAT gives you 75 degrees under load it's worrying!

Hi Mate,

At stock speeds never above 30 degrees C. I've actually just spoken to ASUS support in the States and apparently there is a bios bug that reports QX processor temps wrongly. ASUS are aware of it and are going to sort it in the next bios release... we'll wait and see if that happens and how long it takes!

Cheers

ohh ic... you may have a wait then this board was released last week and only one uk e-tail has them as they bought all the suppliers boards and i got the first one ;)

edit: im sure there is other ones for sale tho mate
