Only if you set it to AHCI mode in the BIOS,if you leave it in standard IDE emulation mode then no you won't have to.

Excellent thanks, is it recommended to leave it in IDE emulation mode then?

Yes. :)

Question about the standard PK5....

Can you expect the same kind of overclocking results as say on the "deluxe" version of the board?

No, but expect something close. :)

Dual cores will be clocking closer to the dlx than quads on the vanilla

Hiya guys im just after confirmation that the following set up will work.

Im gonna drop EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX KO ACS3 SILENT onto a PK5 deluxe and i know its going to block some of the Sata ports. (Im looking at the PDF of the manual here)

Now I want to use 2 of them as a RAID0 (couple of 500gb drives) so im assuming I can use ports SATA1 and SATA3 with the rightangle connectors for that.

In addition to that I want to have 2 SATA DVD-DL burners (samsung), Can I plug those into ports SATA5 and SATA6 and have them work while the controller is set to RAID?

Forgive the question but ive always done this with IDE raid and as such they have been on separate controllers.

Also any problems installing Vista64bit if i use this setup? Does it require a driver floppy? i was gonna try and build a PC without on this time but if im gonna need one to install the OS I may as well drop one in.

Thanks for any help.

For starters, you can still use all 6 internal stata headers with a gtx, i do.

2nd, plug your burners in the 'slave' ports and your 2 hard drives in 'master' ports

Enable raid in the bios and use the x64 floppy image from the first page. :)

woo, I can finally post in this topic :P

Because of my lack of cash, I was only able to but the P5KC, it should be here with me tomorrow, fingers crossed :D

Enjoy it :D

Can that be done with a Flash drive now? Im a vista install virgin.

I really dont want a Floppy drive in my case anymore, I cant see much use for them except installing raid drivers.

Thanks for the advice my main concerns have all been about physical space.

Now to pick a case that will take this lot and look good at the same time...

Ok so will it work as i said?
RAID on ports SATA1 and SATA3 with the rightangle connectors, DVDs on ports SATA5 and SATA6
That will physically work, yes. But i have know experience with RAID arrays, so i can't say anything beyond that; i don't see why it wouldn't work, though.

Hi P5-experts :)

Basically a quick question - will I run into any problems with this setup and my selecting motherboard choice?

Basically with regards to size and cooling.

Asus P5KC Combo
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
2x GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium
Sapphire HD 2600 Pro 512MB DDR2 Dual DVI
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular

1) PSU good enough?
2) Is the motherboard going to fit the Tuniq Tower ok?
3) Do I need any other cooling for the northbridge (or alike?)

I wouldn't be "extreme" overclocking, only squeezing no moree than 3GHz.

Best,

1) Corsair HX620 tbh as your overclocking, HX520 has enough though.
2) Scythe Infinty fits so i dont see why Tuniq Tower wont.
3) Nope, well not for 3Ghz.
