**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

No, it's still at one if you use forum defaults.

And that is a thread about cooling mod, this is for resources, updates and problems. Luckily it doesn't have any big problems as of now. :)

What are you after in this thread?

OK, doing some hardcore testing atm:

System-
P5K Dlx
4x1GB Crucial 10th Aniv w/ 80mm Sharkoon 2000
E6400 w/ Ultra-120 & 120mm Sharkoon 2000
X1950Pro IceQ

Testing at:

FSB = 443
Multi x8 -> 3550MHz CPU @ 1.475V BIOS (1.44V PC Probe)
Divider 5:6 -> 1066MHz RAM @ 4-4-4-12-3-30-3-3-2T 2.3V
Vnb = 1.55V

Glad i've got a mobo that does my CPU and RAM justice :D

I have been having problems with a friends p5k dlx, overclock failed messages (even though it hasn't) on bios 202.
The listing Lay-Z-Boy has indicates bios 0311 may help with that, I will give it a try when my mate gets back, ta :)

Very helpful. I just noticed the link to the floppy raid drivers is from gigia-byte.com; thats kinda cheeky. Although I have a P35-DQ6 so I cant talk.

Im testing my HD performance before I install that matrix storage driver.

Edit: It wont let me install the driver even though I have a IHC9R controller onboard. If I set my hard drive controller to ahci or raid mode windows pro 64bit bluescreens on boot-up. Sort of catch 22? I didnt realise u need to use a floppy disk just to run your drives as Sata singles and not even raided?

Anyone had random shutdowns with the deluxe? I have had quite a time with them and am not sure what is causing it. I rebuilt my system trying various bioses last night and I think I may have it stable. Time will tell as it is intermittent.

complete change of tack here, What cpu coolers are you all using with this this board. More specifically has any one had any problems fitting a scythe cooler on this board? Any flavor.

Got an Ultra 120, got up to 375x8 with no problems, bios 1.35v but it's drooping a hell of a lot, ~1.26 according to cpu-z but still stable in orthos for a few hours. 22 idle, ~38 load e6420.

Will push it more later, upgraded to latest bios but doesn't seem to support command rate setting :(

Not sure about that I thought they added it in the latest bios. Id be interested to know if the ultra-120 could fit the gigabyte p35 with crazycool.

megatron, i've seen a picture of the Ultra 120 on the Gigabyte P35 DQ6 and, from what the owner said, it only just fit. The backplate on the motherboard has to be removed for the Thermalright one to fit, and i think the metal clips used to hold the fan touch the heatsink on the motherboard (at least that's what i though i saw looking at the photograph). Don't quote me on this, though, because, having not owned the 2, i don't know 100% that they're compatible.

Has anybody had any SATA problems with the P5K Deluxe? I can't get my SATA DVD drive to work. I can find it in the BIOS, and within Vista, but it doesn't identify it as a proper, working drive. So, for example, i couldn't use it to install Vista because it said no drives were found. And even now, within Windows, it does nothing when i insert a disk. I'm really at a loss. Has anybody had this sort of trouble?

Oh and, another thing, how is everybody updating their BIOS on this board? I can't get EZ Flash to recognise my USB flash drive.

Hi,

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to overclocking - I've got PC2-5300 Crucial Ballistix RAM, and want to change vdimm (its voltage if I'm correct).. can't see setting in bios - how do I change it with the p5k board?

Thanks,

Sul

Mansize: Can't help on the sata issue, my hds are sata (non raid) and work fine but my dvd is still ide. On the bios issue I used EZ flash to go from 0123 to the latest and it was quite happy with my kingston mini fun, I've also just checked my dane-elec and cibox keys and it picks them up fine.
I'm working on the basis that some info is better than none here!!

I have the P5K Deluxe with 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2 Dominator DHX PC2-6400C5 TwinX memory. On my previous setup it was recommended to use twin memory modules in specific slots on the motherboard, is this the same with this motherboard aswell or doesn't it matter anymore. Ie: should I place the modules in the 2 yellow slots, 2 black slots, slots 1/2 or slots 3/4.

Thanks

Mansize: I have had no problems with my Samsung SATA drive, have you tried it on different ports, 2 of the ports use a different controller don't they?

As for the BIOS issue I can't really help other than to say DON'T use the ASUS Update windows software to do the update.
