i only really got the p5kdlx because i needed a new board for my htpc upgrade, but i'm sure the board comes into it's own with a quad, which i won't bother getting until the price cuts however.

but even still it pushes 4x1gb much better than my 680i board, clocks my 6600 further and runs cooler and with less noise as it doesn't have an annoying leaf blower on the NB :p and the nice ICH9R SB doesn't hurt either.

Well just so happens I just received my quad X3210. Currently running at 400 FSB ( 3.2 Ghz ) with 1.45 volts. Currently running orthos on 2 cores but its showing 91'c on cores 1 & 2 with core temp. Thats under water with a top end custom water kit !! PA120.3 .......

Can't be right.

Might be the old Artic Silver 3

Rock solid though

power save mode

Hi

Anyone else having problems with the rig 'entering power save mode' and then re-booting??

I have the Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator DHX PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB) in the black slots, QX6700, 8800 Ultra and Enermax 1KW psu.

All timings are still set to auto, when I have been updating windows and click on the custom install button in widows update it randomly then goes to a black screen with the message ' entering power save mode' and then the thing re-boots.

Any idea's or suggestions as to what I can try? will move to the yellow slots and will double check the RAM voltage as well but any idea's would be most helpful.

The Asgard, if it's not too much trouble, would you walk me through what you've changed in the BIOS to achieve this overclock? Actually, it might be easier if you fill this in:

JumperFree Configuration Settings

I don't really know what settings to alter, and what to leave in auto. Should all of those settings under "Advance CPU Settings" be disabled, with the exception of CPU Ratio Control, obviously?

totally stuffed

even all, just got my p5k and new e6700, put it all together and it wont even post to the bios..:(
i am useing G Skill "F2" ddr2 pc2 8000 mem,, dual 1 gig sticks in the black slots....

any idea what the stock voltages are on the mobo? g skill needs 2.3v

any help would be greatful

thx

Use the yellow slots.

Take the battery out and move the cmos reset jumper to short position, with the power supply unplugged, leave it for about a minute.
Plug psu back in, place jumper back in correct position and place battery back in, see what happens. :)

tryed what you suggested,, and nothing... exactly the same,,.,, nothing... no beeps, all seems tobe fine, but nothing on the screen, no sig,, i replaced the grafic card in old pc, and works fine, replaced the power supply too,

mmm,, lost for words,, i'll pick up a stick of generic ddr2 tomorrow to see if it's a mem problem,, would'nt it beep if the mem was nackered??

Tried reseating the psu connectors, blow cleaning the ram/vga/cpu slots and reseating the cpu and ram?

didnt reseat the cpu, but did the rest, nothing changed,,
nope,, just go my air compresor on to it, not a bad connection in sight... or even a spec of dust..the only thing i havnt been able to swap is the mem,

works perfectly well though in my other rig,

baffled, confused,

what next,,,,???
getting depressed
ill do a total rebuild again tomorrow,

Hi, your board will not boot because of the low voltage it sets for your DDR from the first post. what you need to do is use a stick of low voltage DDR to post, enter bios, up the Vdim to suit your G skill then save and exit. when it posts switch it off put in your G skill and it will post ok. Use the black slots not the yellow as the black allow better overclocking and tighter memory timeings.

I must say i'm not too impressed with the P5K Deluxe so far. Built a new system which was running perfectly (for about 15 mins) until I decided to update the BIOS with Asus Update. Downloaded the latest BIOS and tried to flash it but it kept saying something like "cannot delete EEPROM, press Flash to try again or Exit. Tried again a few times but same message came up again. So eventually exited and rebooted the system. From then on, all the PC does is start the fans, Motherboard LED comes on but about 3-4 seconds later the system shuts down again. No message on the screen, can't even get into the BIOS. Then the system will just keep rebooting and shutting down after 3 secs forever. I have tried clearing the CMOS several times , no difference. Have disconnected all non-essential devices, no difference. Have tried booting with a amiboot.rom BIOS in the CD drive and USB slot and holding Ctrl Home, nothing.

So much for Asus' "Crash Free BIOS"... :(

Thanks for that info about raid.
However is there a way to enable achi on these ports which gives a slight performance increase. If so, then I am guessing I will need the ICHR driver.

Are you sure about master / slave...I don't this applies to sata. You mentioned prioritise so I assume you are you talking about boot order which you can change in the bios anyway, so the red ones according to the manual are sata1 and sata2 so would boot first.

<edit>Righto..just raid Chapter 2 Page 28...you were right..thanks.
It recommends ports 1/2/5/6 for boot disks (red ports), and ports 3/4 for data disk (black ones). So does this mean I would run my 2 raptors and sata dvdrw (which I will be booting off) from 1/2/5, and my data drive of port 3 say</edit>

i have just ordered the ocz 9200.. have you had any troubles with it??

that's why you don't flash in windows, it's damn risky :)

rename a bios p5k.rom and place it on a usb, hit Alt-F2 on POST this should run EZ-Flash and sort you out. unless you've borked the board beyond repair.

Thanks, I know that now :) I never had a problem with my MSI board reflashing from windows though, and my first Asus board got buggered up right at the first time! Board is on its way back now, let's see if it can be fixed. The board doesn't even Post, so I doubt this would have worked :(

Doh! it probably would have

if the board doesn't post it automatically looks for that p5k.rom on a floppy/usb and tries to flash from that.

never mind, just remember if there's a next time :)
