Did anyone really do Well here?

Yeah, most of those who finished. Norris made only one really notable mistake, Verstappen drove brilliantly to keep close to the McLarens. Russell and Albon had quietly successful races in tough conditions. Antonelli shone. Stroll and Hülkenberg got the best results they reasonably could. Bortoleto drove a corking first race until a suspension failure put him into the wall. Even among those who missed out, Leclerc and Hamilton drove well but lost out to a poor strategy call. Tsunoda got unlucky in the chaos rather than lacking pace, and pulled a great move on Leclerc. Ocon and Bearman managed the best they could in a turd of a car combined with shoddy strategy.

Piastri will be kicking himself, but he did drive pretty well until that one corner where Norris went off too but got a little luckier. Lawson was left out on the wrong tyre and paid the price - although he was lacking pace all race anyway. Gasly paid a high price for a late error but should be pretty happy with the race up to them. Not much to say for Alonso, Sainz, Doohan, and Hadjar though.

Finally watched the highlights. Looked like a fun one! I managed to avoid the news (mostly) so has no idea what the result was. Mercedes must be very happy with that overall, what a result for Kimi.

Antonelli did well, but let's not forget he was flattered by the safety cars bunching the field up multiple times. He was a long way off the leading pack after the first stints. The kid clearly has talent, and was best of the rookies, despite that being a very low bar today.

There's a lot of unanswered questions on team and driver performance given how quali was all over the place, and the rain distorted the final result. Looking forward to next weekend already.

Hadjars debut was hilarious.

He gets this far and gets the opportunity to prove himself in F1, and what does he do?

Bins it on the formation lap of the first race.

You couldn't ask for a worse start/impression in F1 :D

Antonelli impressed the most out of all the rookies.

Antonelli drive is getting overhyped somewhat tbh

He got lucky at the start and spun his car in one of the few places which had paved runoff so didn't hit the wall or get stuck in gravel or grass. Then at the end, Ferrari and Racing Bulls messed up the strategy which got him 3 free positions.

More importantly, his pace was a long way off Russells for most of the race.

Still, he finished the race and did so in pretty much the worst conditions you could face on your debut.

Lawson was tragically bad, he was lapping 3 seconds a lap off verstappens pace in clean air at times. He will get binned off very quickly I imagine.

Nice to see the start of the new season!

Was a very good race full of drama.

Struggled with getting F1TV pro working, not sure if it was their end with too much traffic, but took me a good half hour to get it streaming.

To be fair the details you mentioned were hard to take in from the highlights, but I hear ya.

Yeah I don’t know if we’ve really learnt that much from this race, apart from the McLaren’s look to be the fastest.

He was as fast as Russell, or as near as, when he wasn't behind other cars. He made multiple overtakes to get into the position when he could benefit from the safety car and the mistakes of others. He was a bit lucky with the spin but many more experienced drivers also spun, he did it moments after passing Hülk at the first point he could actually push, recovered quickly and swiftly repassed Hülk.

It wasn't the second coming or anything, but it was the best drive anyone put in and for his first race too.

Yeh, it wasn't any sort of landmark rookie performance, but he was the most impressive out of all the rookies.

Gets maximum points for crying like a baby though

TBF It is heart breaking.
My son plays a competitive sport and the amount of effort, blood, sweat and tears he's put in to it - it's too much to put up with at times but they learn to take it on the chin and come back fighting stronger
