*****Official BBQ Thread - Suns out, Buns out!*****

Bought a "Uniflame Classic" from Asda for £120, height adjustable coal rack, separate door for topping up coals, solid cast grills, good coating on the outside. Quite happy with this purchase.
Have used it for wings, pork shoulder steaks, burgers and sausages so far and suits my needs.

My Weber Genesis II e410 has been delivered (though I don't get my house for another week so it remains boxed)! I know it's technically not a bbq but this seems the right thread.

Is there a particularly good set of tools to buy? The Weber stuff looks great but expensive, Amazon stuff looks cheap (and is cheap), are there any good value brands? Tongs, spatula, fork, probably a grate remover for if i want to access a smoker box beneath the grate etc?

How's that not a bbq?
Anyway...
what tools are you thinking that you need? I would start from scratch and see what you actually need once you're using it.
I've had a few sets of tools as presents and tbh, the only thing I use are the tongs, everything else is just my normal kitchen stuff

A lot of purests say it's a gas grill and that a BBQ must be charcoal :D

I definitely want tongs and a spatula, with long handles, and already have a very good instant read thermometer (plus the Weber comes with a probe one). My question was meant to be isthere a particular known good brand of them that are made very well, without spending Weber money, rather than which bits

I got a set of OXO utensils which seems pretty decent:-

Long tongs are certainly worth investing in.

What is a better BBQ to go for around that price range perhaps from Argos?
I recently sprang for a Napoleon 22" kettle, which seems fairly comparable with a Weber, but for just over half the price (£160 from Costco) last month, and a decent quality barbecue really does make the experience a lot more enjoyable

I was in tesco and seen a barrel BBQ for 40 quid so thought I'd give it a whirl. I know it's not up to the standards of those, perhaps if I really get into BBQ and it's not just a 1 hit wonder I might upgrade.

So what can you do with a BBQ aside from the obvious, what whacky creations can I make?

We normally spend about 15-25 quid twice a week on takeaways, and to be fair the price of meat in Tesco seemed like I could get a mountain for that, clubcard prices seem almost Aldi level.

I'm hoping I can save on takeaways.

Gah - I know I'm late, and it's double what you paid, but I saw this on HUKD and thought you might be interested.

£88 if you go into marketplace and look for Amazon EU...

Thanks for the link, just bought some of those and a Weber BBQ chimney starter set. Looking forward to the weekend - if the weather holds out
Good stuff! I got the Lidl chimney a few weeks ago, and (like everyone says) a chimney definitely makes the whole process more enjoyable. I got some Weber fire lighters (- because they were cheap, and natural) and a little blowtorch lighter (a Soto Micro Blow torch, but Lidl do a £3 version if you want cheaper, and Soto do a Pocket Torch XT which actually looks like a better BBQ option than the Micro torch I bought) and it's funny how much faff that all takes away.

Hi all - I hope everyone has been enjoying this fine BBQ weather.

I finally might get round to doing my Turkey crown I brought at Christmas on my WSM. Has anyone done turkey before?

Any suggestions on a rub? I'm potentially thinking 50/50 just salt and pepper :)

Does it need some wrapping once at a set temp?

Many thanks in advance :)

I’ve cooked a few crowns on my WSM, brine it before you cook it, a 5% solution for 12 hours should do it. No need to wrap, just let it go until 74 internal. But brining it is crucial.
