Looking for a pizza oven, notice that the Aldi large pizza oven is back for £499, is there anything better for the money?

Unsure what’s considered best; wood / pellets / gas?

I was looking at getting one last year and was decided on the gas Ooni. I never actually got around to buying one, but when I do that's what I'll get. Apparently the difference is taste between gas and wood etc is negligible but the gas is so much more convenient. The missus's sister has recently bought one and the pizzas are fantastic from it.

Ooni, I got the Karu and optional gas burner last year in the black friday sale and after few weeks on wood pellets I sent the burner back.

OK, well there was 1 Aldi oven in stock this morning so panic bought it in fear of missing out.

Now to find the best place to purchase some wood for it, any suggestions?

Seems like maple / apple / oak wood are the preferred choices. Presumably I will need kindling and some extra long matches to get the thing started as well.

Not familiar with that oven so my advice is for a brick oven but generally I use hardwoods, fruit woods like apple/maple would be wasted on pizzas, they cook too quick (60-90 seconds) for the wood to impart a specific flavour profile unlike smoking where those woods all taste different. I mainly use oak because of its long burn time and high heat output. I use softwood kindling to start my fire, then use a little birch before using the oak. Birch burns hot and fast and is ideal for starting a fire.

Big K or similar.

Just use whatever kiln dried hardwoods you can get locally, most areas have plenty of local suppliers just make sure its been kiln dried as you want the low moisture content. Its normally a mix of different hardwoods depending on what they have in stock, you can pay more for a certain type oak, ash etc but I don't think its really worth it. Its worth speaking to a smaller supplier as they will often be happy to supply shorter lengths for smaller stoves and pizza ovens which saves having to cut them down yourself. Defiantly worth getting a small hatchet in case you need to split down some of the bigger chunks. Most wood suppliers also sell kindling I use a blowtorch to get it started as its easy and quick but a bit of kitchen roll drizzled with a bit of cooking oil under the kindling will also do the job and is cheaper that firelighters.

Controversial opinion but in my experience so far, smoking woods are just generally over fussed about. Maybe I prefer my food on the less smokey side, but I find over a long cook you get plenty of smoke flavour from decent charcoal alone.

Perhaps some people really can tell the difference between a rack of ribs smoked with cherry wood compared to apple wood, but I'm not so sure myself.

My advice is don't fuss too much over wood, just throw a few chunks of whatever hardwood is available in near the start - you'll need to be careful to achieve decent combustion to avoid thick smoke in a kamado - and don't worry too much about it.

I must be getting old (I'm 32 this month) but I'm rather excited to get a BBQ, I'm not much interested in cooking but the thought of BBQ is very exciting. (BBQ N00b obvs)

I'm going to get this

Can you use these in winter ? I'm assuming it can be kept out open to the elements?

Just going to say it, cheap offsets are rubbish if you are intending to smoke food. A cheap 57cm kettle will be better. They will last outside if covered.

I have a Ooni and absolutely love it, They are fairly compact too and are built to last 100% try go for a Ooni if you can.

I currently use a Fyra (Pellets) but do wish I went for a Koda 16 instead for much more control and bigger cooking area.
