**OFFICIAL** Carling Cup Final Thread - Aston Villa Vs. Man Utd - 28/2/10 - Wembley

It would appear your not.

Notice the conjunction - "but", implying the forthcoming statement is in contrast to that or an exception to it.

My reason's for such a comment are;

The camera angle's for actually seeing the lifting are atrocious,
You don't get to see the sparkly balloons and fireworks go off whilst lifting,
Space they have to actually celebrate is non-existent till they climb down all those steps.

Great result for us, first trophy of the season :D

Vidic probably should have gone but to be honest I dont think the Villa player would have scored had he not lunged in anyway, he was going away from goal and had his back to goal, by the time he had sorted all that out we'd have had players back so I can only think that's why the ref didn't give Vidic the red card.

Fantastic header by Rooney after another great assist from Valencia.

Dare I even mention how good Park was? Thought him and Carrick were our best players by far.

Gotta say, i also like tradition, but it seems pretty much pointless walking all that way to celebrate, just to walk all the way down and do another celebration, the celebration on the pitch is pretty much pointless too after the first one :(

Exactly what i think, i dont think he would have scored, vidic got infront of him, evra was only a second or two away, but i wasnt going to mention it on here :p

the pundits said that he only got infront because he had hold of his shirt, sorry but he tried to control the ball and miss controlled it, watch it and watch it again, the ball went a little behind him and then thats when vidic got infront and grabbed him

Vidic only got in front of him because he tugged his shirt.

Well done Utd, and whether Vidic deserved to go or not it made for a MUCH better game because he stayed on the pitch so glad thats how it turned out.

Villla played brilliantly in the first half but didnt really take their opportunities after going ahead. Utd were a lot better in 2nd half and Valencia really came into the game when Rooney came on and imo deserved MOTM award ahead of Park and Carrick (who also played very well)

Rooney is just immense, surprised comments that he missed the 2nd header shows how much he has improved this aspect immensely.

Berba worked really hard all game, and he made the 1st goal easy for Owen (and personally think MO deserves a ticket as super sub in SA IF he is fit - Man City game, West Ham and today all prove what he can do within moments of coming off the bench or getting a single chance)

We really need another right back though - GN is too scary a prospect to continue imo.

Villa got away with a lot of nasty challanges (the one on Evra was particularly nasty that didnt get a booking) - yes Utd did get away with a few no doubt, but Villa did later in the match so it evened out through the game.

Fletcher seemed to be everywhere but didnt really have a great game - bit of a contradiction, but maybe just expect more from him than he seemed to give today

Overall I think it was a great performance by Villa... I think MON has done a fantastic job since taking over the reins from Dreary. He's a team builder, one to nurture a team and build it up, instead of just getting out the cheque book and taking a team even more into debt by buying the latest Big Name Player to come on the market.

Out of interest, does anyone know what Man Utd's starting 11 cost compared to Villa's? ;)

Although Villa's effort dropped off in the 2nd half - hardly surprising considering the **** poor performance by United's 12th player throughout the first half. Milner, however, was my man of the match... I predict he'll be England's captain at some stage during his career. :)

The only thing worse than Dowd's abysmal refereeing (and the attitude of the Plastic Mancs at the pub I was at) was the state of the pitch... shocking state really. Should've played it at Villa Park - at least our groundsmen know how to do their job properly :D

What a day, Wembley is just amazing :)

Don't know where to start, seen the penalty decision several times and Agbonlahor looks like he dived onto Vidic's leg every time. Shocked Cuellar wasn't sent off for that tackle on Evra when he was already on a yellow. Rooney's goal was immense after great play from Berb and Valencia (how many times are we saying those three this season??)

Special mention goes to Rooney, Park and Fletcher. Watching them live made me appreciate just how much hard work they do, Park in particular was just everywhere. It's a pity his attacking sense is pretty poor, his decision making was very questionable (at one point he ran past about 3 then just didn't pass. Very unlucky not to score in the first half though.

Yeah Milner was fantastic today, Young was disappointing though imo, went down very easily several times as well. Agbonlahor was very good as well today, Heskey was ****.

While Carrick is being mentioned, why the **** is he taking freekicks? They were all crap, same for Valencia's corners. We suck so badly from set pieces :(

Yep, I'd agree with that. Ash just hasn't had a great season this year. Never really rated Heskey's ability as a footballer (although he's proven me wrong on several occasions) he's just very strong.

The worse thing was how badly Fergie seems to rate Milner, he was constantly a threat in the last match against us, so did we have a man marking him this time? Hell no. And he almost scored when he ran in behind with no-one tracking him. Luckily after that one of Carrick or Fletcher was always on to him when he got possession.

Don't know about you guys but am I the only one that thinks the last man tackle shouldn't generally be a straight red card?

Yesterday Belletti received red for walking behind the attacker and clipping his heels. Anywhere else on the field it wouldn't of even been a yellow. Vinic's tackle today wouldn't of been a red outside the penaty area.

I just find it wierd that a last man tackle error receives 2 punishments (sent off and 1 goal down) A penaty itself is a huge advantage. In todays example Agbanlahor still had lots to do if he was going to score. A penaty allows him to take a shot free without Vinic interfering and no difficult angle.

Anyway Villa can't complain as they needed to come and beat a United side with 11 men and they just couldn't do that.
